Privacy Policy
Effective Date: [April 17, 2026]
KeyReader ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. KeyReader is a reading app that stores most data locally on your device.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App processes, how it is used, and what choices you have.
1. Information We Process
The App is designed to work primarily on your device. Depending on features you use, the App may process:
- Book files (EPUB) you import into the App.
- Reading-related data, such as book list, reading position, and display/settings preferences.
- Dictionary and learning data you create (saved words, translations, phrases, progress).
- AI discussion data you create in chat features.
- Text excerpts you explicitly request to translate or analyze with AI features.
2. How Information Is Stored
Most data is stored locally on your device, including:
- Imported books and local library references.
- Reading progress and preferences (UserDefaults).
- Dictionary and AI chat history (local SQLite database).
We do not require account registration to use the App.
3. Third-Party Services
When you use online translation or AI features, selected text/content may be sent to third-party APIs to provide results:
- DeepSeek (AI chat/completion features)
- DeepL (translation)
- MyMemory (translation fallback)
These providers process data according to their own privacy policies and terms. We recommend reviewing them before using online features.
4. What We Do Not Collect Directl
We do not intentionally collect, sell, or rent personal data for advertising purposes.
The App does not include built-in analytics SDKs or ad networks in its core functionality.
5. Legal Basis and Purpose (where applicable)
If you are in a jurisdiction that requires legal basis (e.g., GDPR), processing is based on:
- Performance of requested service (e.g., translation/AI response).
- Legitimate interest in providing and improving core app functionality.
- Your actions/consent when you choose to use online features.
6. Data Retention
- Local data remains on your device until you delete it (e.g., removing books, dictionary items, or chat history, or uninstalling the App).
- Data sent to third-party providers is retained under those providers’ own policies.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect data processed by the App. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. Because most data is stored locally, you can generally control it directly from your device and App actions.
10. International Data Transfers
If you use online features, your data may be processed on servers located outside your country by third-party providers.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised "Effective Date."
12. Subscriptions
Payments for subscriptions are processed by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information.
We may receive information about your subscription status from Apple in order to provide access to premium features.
