This site is a primer for instructors at any level, but primarily those in higher education, on the purpose, principles, and practice of open pedagogy. Open pedagogy supports each of the ACRL standards for information literacy, but most specifically relates to: Authority is constructed and contextual; Information creation as a process; Information has value.
After traveling through the pages of this site, readers will be able to:
Describe the purpose of open pedagogy
Assess the theoretical and pedagogical traditions that inform open pedagogy
Distinguish what makes something an open educational resource
Explore open educational resources
Distinguish what constitutes a renewable assignment
Connect with the open community
Imagine an open intervention in their own course(s)
Note: If you are considering a shift toward open pedagogy, a gradual pace is best; a wholesale transition in all aspects of a course can be overwhelming, and assessing which open interventions work and which don't work in a given course is an important part of the process. Please afford yourself grace and time.
