What does copyright mean? When can I apply Fair Use? What is a Creative Commons license? Why should I post and license my work?
Artistic production and copyright can intersect in various, nuanced ways making it hard to discern how to appropriately or meaningfully incorporate the works of other's into your own. This LibGuide is designed to help you think through and better understand these concepts as it applies your artistic practice.
This OER is directed towards instruction librarians at universities who will be teaching a one-shot class to undergraduate studio art/design/any practice based art students.
This resource covers:
Defining copyright and associated terms as it relates to artistic works
How to and why you should consider adding Creative Commons licenses to work
Application of learned knowledge in a workshop
This OER has a two-fold purpose, it is both the presentation and LibGuide.
This resource should remain available for students to refer to after the instruction.
Instructors should feel free to adjust or amend this resource to their user population as they see fit. As shown on the bottom of every page, this OER has a CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
