The Department of English at M. J. (Autonomous) College hosted an enthusiastic welcome ceremony for the incoming students of F.Y.B.A. and F.Y.M.A. (Special English), alongside the official inauguration of the English Club. Dr. Yogesh Mahale, the newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Bhupendra Kesur.
Prof. Anil Kshirsagar delivered the introductory address, outlining the department's diverse academic, literary, and creative initiatives. He urged the newcomers to look beyond their textbooks and actively participate in co-curricular activities.
In his presidential address, Prof. Dr. Bhupendra Kesur encouraged students to broaden their horizons through extensive reading. "Do not confine yourselves to the prescribed syllabus; read beyond it. Rather than fostering mere competition, strive to build an inclusive community that brings people together," he remarked.
Chief guest Dr. Yogesh Mahale inspired the students by emphasizing the transformative power of reading. "Books will not come to you; if you wish to achieve something meaningful in life, you must seek out books yourself," he observed, urging them to read consistently to expand their intellectual horizons.
It was announced that the English Club will roll out a series of initiatives to hone linguistic and creative skills, including a Spoken English Crash Course, the 'InkSpire' Creative Writing Competition, the VIP Vocabulary Competition, and a Film Club.
The ceremony also featured vibrant cultural performances highlighting student talent. Gauri Shukla presented a classical dance, Khushangi Jhalte recited poetry (shayari), and Deepika, Sumit, and Avantika delivered an energetic group dance. The comedic play The Comedy About Spies, staged by the students, earned wide appreciation from the audience.
Adding to the celebration, Chirayu Sonawane and Gauri Shukla were crowned 'Mr. Fresher' and 'Miss Fresher,' respectively.
Faculty members present on the occasion included Prof. Panditrao Chavan, Prof. Yogini Rajput, Prof. Husaid Shaikh, Prof. Harshan Salunke, Dr. Laxman Wagh, and Dr. Ramprasad Budhwant.
The event was anchored by Aishwarya and Jairaj. Faculty members, students, and volunteers of the English Department worked diligently to ensure the event's success, with Dr. Jyoti Lekule and Mr. Kamlakar Ruge serving as event coordinators
