Inkling ("we," "our," or "the app") is a creative writing application that helps you write and organize stories. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Inkling app on Android (Google Play).
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data Stored on Your Device
Stories and scenes: Your story titles, descriptions, scene content, and writing are stored locally on your device in the app’s private storage. We do not upload this content to our servers.
Cover images: Any images you choose for story covers are stored on your device.
App preferences: Settings such as theme (light/dark), onboarding completion, and editor preferences are stored on your device using local storage (e.g. SharedPreferences).
Optional password: If you set a password to protect a story, only a secure hash of that password is stored on your device. We do not store or transmit your actual password.
1.2 Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on our servers. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking in the app. Your writing and app data stay on your device unless you choose to share them (e.g. via Share or export).
2. How We Use Your Information
Data on your device is used only to run the app: to save and display your stories, apply your settings, and protect stories with a password if you enable that feature.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising.
3. Third-Party Services
Google Play / In-app purchases: If you make in-app purchases, payment and purchase data are processed by Google according to Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive your payment details.
Share / Export: When you use “Share” or export (e.g. PDF), data is sent only to the apps or services you choose (e.g. email, messaging). We do not receive or store that data.
System storage and permissions: We use device storage and, if you use cover images, camera/photo access only to save and load your content locally.
4. Data Security
Your content is stored in the app’s private directory on your device.
Passwords for protected stories are hashed (not stored in plain text) and never sent off the device.
We do not transmit your writing or account data to our servers.
5. Children’s Privacy
Inkling is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at inkling-support@gmail.com and we will address it.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when we make changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we may notify you in the app or via the contact email.
