Portraits in Passing - an installation, is inspired by what we see and don't acknowledge, the people of the streets. We see them, we know they are there, but we turn our heads so to not acknowledge their presence. We look through them until we are forced to acknowledge them. The fabric panels that the subjects are painted on, appear transparent, until nature takes its course. Visitors are encouraged to walk among the panels. Suspended on a swivel rig, the panels, rotate on the air currents. It is at this point the people can truly be seen. The paintings are created on grey organza, the fabric resists opaque coverage, so when viewed directly the image appears extremely transparent, but when the panel rotates, the optical illusion of a figure appears and we can no longer ignore the obvious. There are 15 panels, each person I have seen on the streets. The installation ebbs and flows, like life, and a new panel is created as a new person appears and they are painted
