In Her Element: Origins Chapter 8 is here! It's time to get down-to-earth!
It is important to keep whatever is sacred to you safe, especially if you are a ruler. After all, if it’s something needed, you may lose everything if what you’re protecting is ultimately lost. But the truth about every monarch is that they didn’t climb the ranks and retain their power all by themselves. Even the strongest of people need their share of help, after all. If someone is alone, even if their level of strength equates to one million, some other adversary can add up to that amount and topple them with sheer numbers.
A yellow, pudgy-looking bird is fluttering through the large, modern cityscape that is Ayers City. It is on the search for something important, something for a certain mission to be fulfilled. The bird perches on the tippy top of a skyscraper, giving itself an impressive view of tall buildings paired with the sound of wind quietly howling.
Near the bird’s ear, a small device attached nearby starts to ring out a male, yet highly pitched voice. “Feather?” The voice asks. “Any progress on locating your target?”
“Ah, hello,” Feather greets the voice with a shrill voice. “Currently, no. It seems like this city has few pickings for our current mission.”
“That’s interesting,” The voice replies. “Everyone else has found one already and is making observations on their targets.”
“True. I know Sally has found one, and Bert has located another. I believe Felicia is struggling to view her target due to her limitations, but she has indeed got one. But, I have found one potential candidate myself,” The bird mentions. “She seems to be a bright, sunny girl. She has some good friends, and not much of a life she has to deal with. She might be a good choice for the task at hand. …Or at least may be able to give the team some encouragement.”
“Perhaps that could work,” The voice answers, intrigued. “She may need to be accustomed to the situation she’ll face, but there could be potential in her.”
Suddenly, the noise of static hits the bird as the voice shifts to someone else, this time one that’s colder and more feminine. “Look, you need to find someone. It’s been getting too long for me to be doing this alone.”
“I know, miss, but you have to understand that you were essentially lightning in a bottle,” Feather tries to justify. “It’s not like we can find someone like you in an instant.”
The woman sighs. “I know, it’s just… getting harder and harder for me. And I feel like I should’ve gotten them by now. I’m just losing my patience at this point…”
“I understand, miss, and to be honest, I don’t blame you.” The bird tells the female voice.
“It doesn’t have to be perfect. They just have to be good enough, remember.” The girl reminds the bird.
“Right… I keep forgetting that we’re on a time crunch,” The bird mentions, realizing its situation at hand. “Alright, that candidate is going to be the one. I’ll double-check on them before having a final say, but they are almost sure to be picked.”
“Make sure to be snappy,” The lady replies. “Things could become exponentially worse if we don’t hurry.”
“Got it.”
There’s another break of static before the voice goes back to the male one. “Don’t stress yourself out, Feather. I know she’s impatient and frustrated, but remember that we’ll need to find someone who can handle the task at hand.”
“I’ll see what I can do. I’ll go ahead and try to relocate that girl I found.” Feather tells the other voice.
“Alright. See you.”
“Bye.”
The transmission device goes silent. With nothing else to do, Feather leaps off the top of the skyscraper and begins soaring across the city again to find his target. As he goes across the buildings with grace, he has one set goal in mind.
I will find you, Royal Air.
