DESIGNING THE PROCEDURE
DESIGNING THE PROCEDURE
Angelos Floros
Presented: Extending Workshop, Athens School of Fine Arts, July 2012
A lecture on the design process itself, across four registers: representation, interactive design modules, physical computing procedures, and realisation.
It is given from the position of a freelance researcher in visual and interactive design — work made for exhibitions including the Venice Biennale and the Prague Quadrennial, and for the Academy of Athens, the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the University of Athens, the Foundation of the Hellenic World, the National Archaeological Museum, and the Greek ministries of Culture and Education.
The working principle is that every project — educational, academic, research or professional — is an occasion to extend what one understands, and to embed something social and cultural in what gets designed.
Three objectives organise the research:
A comprehensive glossary for the students. A content-ed ark for the clients. A next-generation eventful playground for society.
Three audiences, three obligations. The first needs words that mean something. The second needs their material kept and made usable. The third needs somewhere to play.
