This site is a collection of works, thoughts, writings, academic and professional collaborations into the fields of arts, architecture and design in the era of bits. This site delineates my carrier enrolment in design practices under the prism of Arts, Technology, Science, Society.
Angelos Floros has a career of twenty years in the field of teaching, research and professional experience in contemporary art forms and has been active in the field since from 2002.
He has been involved in a significant number of research projects. More specifically, during his research activity, he has developed eight projects as a UI/UX Leader: The Digital Acropolis Museum - aiming at creating a modern resource for the Hellenic culture, in collaboration with the team of professor D.Pantermanlis, former President of the Board of Directors of the Acropolis Museum. The National Archaeological Museum under the supervision of the former Director N.Kaltsas. The Epidaurus Museum in collaboration with professor V. Lamprinoudakis. Moreover, he further continued his research in collaboration with the American Research Team of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens on two additional projects: The Gennadius Library and the AGORA project run by M.Georgopoulou, Director of the Library and C.Mauzy, Assistant Director of the American School of Excavations.
Shifting from the Digital Art Form disciplinary to a broader range of scientific fields, the field of anthropogeographic folk culture through the collaboration with the Hellenic Folklore Research Center of the Academy of Athens was included in his research interests. In that context, two applications were developed for the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs in collaboration with Kastaniotis Publications. The “Electronic Postman” and the “Electronic Explorer”. Expanding to the field of tourism, visual content for the application “Cultural Navigation of Athens” was created for the Foundation of Hellenic World which. Closing the review of the published research, it is worth mentioning the beneficial collaboration with monks and administrators of 14 Monasteries of Mount Athos for the development of 8 research works such as digital Proskinitarion, digital footpaths and digital multimedia applications for Athos Digital Heritage project, that includes applications and audIovIsual recordings for the for the spiritual and environmental culture of Mount Athos (link).
Angelos Floros participated in international exhibitions such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) in Athens, Center of Art and Media, ZKM, Prague Quadrennial 2003, Venice Biennial 2006, 1st Thessaloniki Biennial and others.
His research work, a big part of which is award-winning, has been published and also presented to the general public through exhibitions, applications, and papers in reputable scientific journals at Greek and international conferences.
He has a continuous collaboration -as an educator and instructor- with universities, institutions, non-profit organisations, and local communities. This research process includes educational tools such as courses, lectures and workshops for professionals, students, and the general public, as well as hands-on applications. These procedures introduce participants to an educational method that is addressing the design issues throughout the process, transmitting from manuscripts to reality through an extensive evaluation process. As a result, participants are enabled to bridge the physical sphere with the digital world.
According to Angelos Floros, a general syllabus for an applied work is a three-step learning formula: Design, Build and Expose.
In 2011, the book “Keyboard Events: Architecture and Information - An Introduction to Physical Computing”, was written, edited, and published in collaboration with A.Cohen, former Adjunct Lecturer, aiming at imprinting a successful academic experiment for the course “Keyboard Events” of the Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly. The book is available in Greek, with the scope to transfer the expertise and knowledge of the emerging Physical Computing field in our country.
The overall aim of the academic approach is to focus on a research process that will provide:
● a comprehensive glossary for students,
● a content(ed) ark for clients, and
● next-generation eventful playground (platform) for society.
Each task, educational, academic, research or professional, is a medium to extend the boundaries of cognitive modules, embodying social and cultural characteristics in innovative design process. All of these years as an academic and professional, I focus on a role that leads to a democratic living pattern through technology and science.
