COMMUNITY PROJECT: PLAY - TECHNOLOGY - SOCIETY
COMMUNITY PROJECT: PLAY - TECHNOLOGY - SOCIETY
Angelos Floros
Presented: Extending Arts, Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering, University of the Aegean, Syros, 2015
An open learning procedure that lets citizens and students engage with art as experience.
The talk gathers three implementations across seven years, each testing the same method with a different public.
2007-08 — Keyboard Events. A course at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, run with Aaron Cohen and Yorgos Kalaouzis. It introduced the distinction that has organised everything since: an interactive installation read as a triptych of Rules, Object/Space, System — a framework for analysis and for design at once.
2013 — Kosmas 500. An intensive workshop at the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering, University of the Aegean, where students designed and built Kosmas 500: a composition of four projects with multidisciplinary character, reconsidering artificial intelligence in traditional robots outside the conventional frame of human-computer interaction.
2014 — Dynamo. A six-week public workshop at Dynamo Project Space, Thessaloniki, where citizens worked together and produced ten interactive media artworks.
The through-line is who is allowed to make. In the first case students, in the second designers, in the third anyone who came.
