The paper aims to present the artistic outcome of OPEN ART Education Training program for Lifelong Learning taking place by Ionian University of Greece with the sponsorship of Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF). This paper explores applications of Arduino boards as a tool for study and research works in an Art Project named THREA 2020.
Arts and Technology are considered as two distinctive lines but with the growth of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), the distance between these two is drastically decreasing. The vast majority of artists use forums to increase their knowledge on original Software tools and collaborate in the development of open-source software and hardware.
The integration of Technology in Arts is a vital and fruitful procedure which connects Artists’ communities with researchers -from institutions or individuals- at all levels. ICT is the medium of expression for eloquent artists, technology allows them to prototype tools and fulfill their artistic survival agony.
A case study approach of Threa 2020 which is an interactive audiovisual sculpture that invites visitors to contemplate the messages on a led matrix and the chaotic graphics of a digital kaleidoscope (Caleiduino). The Arduino based -DIY, open-source- Kaleidoscope sends data to Max/Msp or/and Ableton and interact with the music composed for this particular art project.
The experience offers a window into a multi-coloured dimension of light and ambient sound. A strong message is scrolling on the matrix, “SAVE THE EARTH, I CAN’T BREATHE, EQUALITY” trying to move audience to the most important facts of the year 2020. Threa aims to create an experience, analogous to the events of 2020’s complete chaos as an intellectual experience full of unique identity, overwhelming emotions and reactiveness of our political beliefs, allowing this concept be felt through our embodied empathy.
