Before each workshop, be sure you have read the applicable chapters in your textbook and completed the draft of the artifact to be considered that evening.
Rough draft artifacts must be ready to discuss in class, but are not turned in. Your polished final presentations are due on the agreed deadline and must be submitted to the instructor via Canvas.
(I recommend you print out this overview to refer to throughout the semester)
Read Chapters 1-4
Find a collection or several collections you can use as the basis for the entire course.
Think about the makeup of the community; their needs, and what is currently happening to serve those needs during the pandemic.
Look at the library you are interested in, but also look at the other types of libraries in that community that are serving patron needs..
During the workshop, we will decide on the product of your investigation that will be due the week after our first workshop.
Our study will be part of the empathy step of design thinking.
Read chapter 6 of the ext before the workshop.
What is the state of technology of your library to extend resources and services to segments of the potential users?
Who has robust access? Who has limited access? Who is left out and why?
Are there any libraries we can find that are is great shape for equitable access? How do they do it? How could other libraries invent equitable access?
Concentrate your technology analysis on digital collections rather than the physical collection owned by the library. This will focus all of us on connections development.
Have a rough draft of your analysis ready for workshop three and for submission to Canvas one week later.
Read Chapters 5, 7-9 before this workshop.
Try to get your head around the concept of collection mapping. We will concentrate our efforts on the virtual collection that is extending out to our patrons.
We will first do an analysis of our study of technology access as we try to propose ways of handling equity.
We will then ideate or brainstorm the rest of our journey for the semester.
