Personal Learning Environment

By creating your own Personal Learning Environment (PLE), you will understand how and why both students and adults should create their own PLEs.

You will create your own PLE that contains the following three elements:

  1. The Portal
  2. The Personal Learning Network (PLN)
  3. The Personal Portfolio

The final PLE will be due at the end of the semester.

Element 1 - Your Portal

A portal is a handy group of tools that will keep you organized every day, similar to apps on an iPhone or iPad.

You will select a tool to create your portal. Tools include:

Symbaloo (a great tool for creating your PLE. Create an account, explore and have fun!)

Google Sites

For a portfolio, check out Educlipper

Alternatively, you may create your own website or portal. Check out this example.

Element 2 - Your Personal Learning Network (PLN)

What is a PLN? This video will help.

Items to Consider for your PLN:

    • Who you are listening to
    • Tools you use regularly
    • Your Learning How to Learn Toolbox
    • Places and people you would like to connect with

Element 3 - Your Portfolio

Start your own portfolio or continue working on the one you have.

    • A private space
    • A public face
    • Using any software you choose - The recommended software to use is Symbaloo (as mentioned earlier). Think of this as software that acts the closest to what you would have for a PLE on your smart phone.

After you create your portfolio, you will create a maximum 5 minute Jing video tour of your entire PLE. Be sure to include all three sections: the portal, the PLN, and the portfolio.
