Dr. Bindiya Arora received her Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, where she worked with Prof. M. S. Safronova. She worked on the modeling of atomic systems for atomic clocks and quantum computation throughout my Ph.D. After completing her Ph.D., She worked as a Scientist with Prof. Arvind at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), in Mohali, India, from November 2010 to October 2011. After that, She became an Assistant Professor at Guru Nanak Dev University's Department of Physics (Oct. 2011-Present). At the moment, She is the head of GNDU's atomic physics group. In 2012, the Punjab Science Congress awarded her with the Young Scientist Award for her remarkable contribution in the field of Blackbody radiation shift estimates for optical clocks. In 2018, She was selected for the DFG-INSA exchange of scientists program, which took me to the University of Kaiserslautern in Germany, and in 2019, NASI-SCOPUS named her one of India's top three female scientists. In 2021, the Pearl Foundation honored her as a Young Women Scientist.
Yatin is currently pursuing his Master in Science (Honours) degree in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. During his Bachelor's, he worked on developing small organic molecules as therapeutics for inflammation, cancer, and diabetes under the supervision of Prof. Palwinder Singh at the Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Along with research in organic and medicinal chemistry, He is interested in exploring creative ideas and methodologies to enable layman and student engagement with science, and building a scientifically literate society, particularly in Punjab. He along with Dr. Bindiya Arora has established the Progressive Regional Association of Youth for Advancement of Sciences (PRAYAS) which is a registered NGO and aims to promote science among the youth of the state. He has also worked as an editor of a popular science book “Avriti”. In July 2022, He is an Associate Membership of Royal Society of Chemistry, London.
Somdatta Karak is trained as a neuroscientist with a PhD from University of Goettingen, Germany. She is an ex-Teach for India fellow. She is now a science communicator and works towards making life science more accessible to young people. She leads science communication efforts at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad. She is also a co-lead at Superheroes against Superbugs, an initiative for education and public engagement on antibiotic resistance in India.
Piyushi is a PhD in Chemistry from IIT Delhi. Currently, she is working as a Science Communication and Outreach Manager at India-UK Innovation and Sustainability Chemistry Consortium (India UK- ISCC), an international multidisciplinary chemistry network providing a training and research environment for future international chemistry leaders in India and the United Kingdom- funded by British High Commission and Royal Society of Chemistry.
While academia and corporate R&D have traditionally been the popular career options in the field of chemistry, she has always been keen on exploring alternative avenues which can help to provide her with global perspectives, opportunities to collaborate and contribute meaningfully to the scientific fraternity and staying abreast with the latest developments in the field of chemistry.
At ISCC, she has been involved in several initiatives on the scientific as well as outreach side such as Scholar Stories, More to Science, Science Outreach in Schools to name a few. She has authored and published science content/stories (blogs), visualized, planned and successfully organized several off-and on-campus outreach initiatives and events to promote collaborative research. Her work at ISCC is not just restricted to science writing but also taking on the communications effort, interviewing/interacting with scientists, research scholars and professionals and producing compelling material to promote the organisation’s efforts.
Prior to that, she was a part of academia and worked as an Assistant Professor in one of the engineering college in Bangalore.
Samreet Singh Dhillon is a third-year undergraduate student at Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University, India. His field of interests include astronomy, general relativity, quantum mechanics, and particle physics. The 20yo is the editor of Bohring, a biweekly physics newsletter. He has authored 35+ articles for the same.
Besides, he loves to read popular science books; watch science shows and videos; is a sci-fi lover; rubik's cube fanatic; amateur pianist; amateur card magician; amateur music producer, and passionate footballer.
Diksha is a final year undergraduate of mathematics at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She has always found numbers interesting and exciting. She aspires to pursue her master's in Data Analysis and Statistics. She is passionate about learning new skills and takes up various courses online to master her skills which include Data analysis and sustainable fashion.
Being a young enthusiast, she has been trying her best to work for social causes she cares about. She has volunteered as a fundraiser for Muskurahat Foundation, an NGO based in Mumbai. She has also published an article in INERTIA based on Scientific Temperament.
