Lake Maxinkuckee Tourney - August 21, 2021

Well after a long weekend trying to coordinate the toughest tourney I’ve ever been associated with, I / we received many praises on pulling off what some thought might be the impossible lol. Then officiating the ILF tourney on Sunday, I’m finally getting around to publishing the results for Maxinkuckee.

Before I get started. I wanted everyone to know this tourney was a challenge. From an officers perspective, I’m my own worst critic, and always looking for ways to improve, this was probably our most successful tourney of 2021. We the officers could not have pulled it off without the help of all the members doing their part and all the volunteers!! You all played a huge part of this being a success. So a huge thank you goes out to the other officers, for getting there early and getting things setup. Also to all the volunteers, Mike Botos, Nathan Redman, my dad Rick Ray for all their help at the early check-in and getting to the ramp at 5:00 AM to make sure the line was moving and boats got launched and anything else they could do just so this tourney went off without a hitch. Then once I’d heard Tom and Zach couldn’t make it, I asked if they would be interested in weighing fish, they both volunteered without hesitation. They contacted me days after St. Clair knowing Maxi would be a challenge to pull off and said whatever you guys need… we will be there to help. So I can’t thank them enough. Thank you to Todd / Sammy Smith for the white board duties, Heather Berg for documenting all the results, Jacob Spencer for pictures, and Garry Parker for selling 50/50 tickets. Also thank you to Fred Claar for all the insight on how things are ran at this pond.

There was so much that went into coordinating this tourney behind the scenes, many have no clue. From being down an officer with Tom our Tourney Director being ill, a lake with only a one lane ramp with no turnaround, minimal parking at the ramp and having to shuttle teams before and after the tourney to the overflow parking area, it was a ton of work. It took several days, possibly even a week to coordinate everything, making phone calls, several trips to the lake, a Friday night check-in, etc… I’m just glad that one is over 😂😂.

We want to give a huge congrats to Team Bilyeu whom took the win on a tough lake to find bigger fish, and every ounce counts. They got it done, catching a nice bag of largemouth. Second place goes to Todd and Sammy Smith, these guys continue to be the epitome of what IBC is all about. They work hard, they’re at every tourney, they volunteer, they talk to everyone, the list goes on… I’m so happy for them and it’s a well deserved second place finish for these guys. Third place goes to Redman and Spencer, even after missing the Monroe tourney and getting zero points. These guys have pretty much solidified a spot in the Elite 8. Bring two of the best local anglers, I’m not surprised at all, but they both work hard and it shows. Big Bass honors go out to Terry Smith Mobley with a weight of 2.84, Kevin and Terry also caught the big bass at Monroe, but I want to mention that in the same Monroe tourney, Terry had another giant bass she weighed in and I believe was her personal best largemouth. Congrats Terry and keep it up.

Also checkout the Elite 8 standings. New teams in with only one tourney left. The last few positions are wide open and remember the highest finishing team at the classic that didn’t qualify in the Elite 8 will earn an automatic bid to the Elite 8 tourney where there will be lots of money up for grabs.

St. Clair Tourney - July 24th and 25th

After a long and heartfelt week, we couldn't have asked for better weather, comradorie, and fishing. As I spent time on the lake with my dad and the evennings with great friends, I had time to reflect back on things and that's exactly what Michael "Wacky Worm" would've wanted. The club celerating his life as a close nit family / club and not mourning his loss. In the words of Mike Schwomeyer, Michael was Superman, whom never complained about his issues, the fishing, or anything, he just enjoyed his time with everyone. He was a "Super" Man, both him and Johnny are just "Super" Men to be around and call friends, and we're all better for knowing them. Michael will be greatly missed.

I want to thank everyone that helped tribute this tourney to Michael "Wacky Worm" Williams! The rain held off for a great start on Saturday to memorialize Michael. We received some generous donations for the family. Thank you to everyone wearing Superman T-Shirts, socks, etc... A special thank you to the Land's family that donated all the Superman flags. His daughter made every one of them and her time and effort is greatly appreciated.

Lake St. Clair didn't disappoint, and fished great this past weekend. The lake gave opportunities to catch them doing many different things. The points are shaking up again, we have new points leaders, and some new teams in sitting in the Elite 8. Congrats to Ted McClintick and Chad Jackson on their victory. Long hours on the water and hard practice helped them silodify a plan and locate a good area to take the win with a total weight of 36.11 lbs. Congrats to Nate Redman and Jacob Spencer landing the largest bag of the tourney on day two (19.73 lbs) which sealed 2nd place honors with a weight of 34.29 lbs and big bass honors with a 5.08 bass. No surprise for this team claiming 3rd place honors as they seem to consistantly catch them everywhere we go. 3rd place belongs to Bob Curtis and Dwight Curtis with a total weight 30.69 lbs. Last but not least in the money and great to see them in the money considering how hard they practice is team Trevor Hunter and Bret Minor with a total weight of 29.33 lbs.

If anyone snapped any pictures of the weigh in or their fish, please feel free to text / email them to me. I’ll get them on Facebook and the website.

Monroe Tourney - May 22nd

The points are shaking up again, we have a new leader, some new teams in sitting in the Elite 8, and the top 4 spots are within 25 points. Congrats to Blake Cross and Garry Parker on their victory at a very tough Monroe tourney this past weekend. They had one of the only two limits weighed in and had twin 4 pounders to take the win with a total weight of 15.36 lbs. Congrats to Ted McClintick and Chad Jackson grabbing 2nd place honors with a weight of 13.22 lbs and 2nd big bass honors with a 5.04 bass. 3rd place belongs to Bret Languell and Mike Botos with a total weight 12.50 lbs. Last in the money is team Terry Smith Mobley and Kevin Mobley with a 4th place finish with a total weight of 11.77 lbs and grabbed big bass honors with a 5.76 bass.

If anyone snapped any pictures of the weigh in or their fish, please feel free to text / email them to me. I’ll get them on Facebook and the website.

The website will be updated here shortly with pictures and results. See you all at Shafer in a few weeks!

West Boggs Tourney on April 24th.

As expected West Boggs didn't disappoint, 17 limits, 106 total fish weighed and a total weight of 244 pounds. It didn't take long for Team Pontius and Paddack to make their presence known again in IBC, and get some mojo in their new boat. They weighed in 14.56 good enough for 1st place. In 2nd place Team Bauer and Bauer. We are so excited this team was back with us and bounce back with 13.93 and weighing in a stud for big bass at 5.80 lbs just shows their “Never Give Up” attitude and we’re glad to have them back in action. To round out the top 3. Team Redman and Spencer is on a roll early this season with back to back 3rd place finishes as they also placed 3rd in Anglers Choice tourney last weekend on Lake Shafer. They weighed in 13.72 good enough for 3rd place. 2nd Big Bass was weighed in by first time boater and Team Slaga and Jones with a solid 3.98 Bass.

1st Place - Jeff Pontius and Zane Paddack with 14.56

2nd Place - Tom Bauer and Zach Bauer with 13.93

3rd Place - Nate Redman and Jacob Spencer with 13.72

Big Bass went to Tom Bauer and Zach Bauer with 5.80

March 30, 2021

Brookville Tourney on March 27th.

First I want to thank everyone for keeping in touch with us and praying for our TD Tom Bauer!! Please keep them coming as we pray for a quick and full recovery!!

Also a special thanks to everyone that volunteered to help in his absence. The first tourney is always pure chaos lol. Having many new officers, fog delay, officers scrambling the day / night before to pick up equipment, then being down a man (especially with such an important roll that Tom plays on game day), It makes it even more chaotic. So we're very grateful to have such great members to volunteer and pick up the pieces to make it go as smooth as possible. Some members were not even asked and started helping out where they could. Looking back, I know we learned many lessons and many areas to be better at, so we'll continue to work hard to maintain the level of excellence you're all used to experiencing with Indy Bass Club.

Well the 1st is in the books and what a stingy Lake Brookville was being. However.... There was way more fish weighed in than we anticipated going into this tourney. Congrats to everyone that caught fish!

1st Place - Tedd McClintick and Chad Jackson with 11.76

2nd Place - Tom Nelis and Greg Rainbolt with 10.26

3rd Place - Wayne Judd and Byron Johnson with 9.03

Big Bass went to Jason Cazimero and Josh Quackenbush with a giant 5.03

Greetings,

This is the invite to the Indy Bass Club Spring Meeting. It’s scheduled for Saturday, February 27th @ 2:00PM at Honey Creek Tackle (HCT).  This meeting is to kick off our 2021 season, and we highly recommend each team is represented with at least one member. During the meeting we will review the 2021 schedule, review and vote on several new rules and answer any questions, then go over pre-tourney info for Brookville. Here’s a friendly reminder that all boats must have the DNR “Motorized Boat Permit” before you can launch at Brookville.

Immediately following the meeting. We will be hosting our second IBC 101 Seminar. Our guest speakers include a few of our very own club members. We will also be hearing a seminar from one of the most accomplished anglers in Indiana Terry McWilliams. I still have hopes that I can get Brody McWilliams to possibly meet with us virtually, maybe Facebook live. But since Jacob Wheelers season starts on the 20th,, Brody and I are having a hard time coordinating a solid date. So most likely I will have him speak at a later date.

Mark your calendars!

****REMINDER****

I wanted to send out a reminder about next Saturday January 16th at 2:00PM, IBC will be hosting our first 101 seminar. In case you missed the last email, The 101’s are basically fishing seminars hosted by the club for our members to learn new techniques, patterns, lakes, etc… Typically we either invite special guests to speak or ask other club members to present a seminar. These seminars are totally optional, but it’s a good way to get out of the house for anyone struggling with cabin fever. These are always fun and very informative. We will also have several nice items we’re raffling off (possibly quality rod, reel, gift card).

Jason at Honey Creek Tackle has confirmed we are good to go and has kindly given us plenty of space at his tackle shop to host the events. With most ALL the spring fishing shows being cancelled due to Covid, Honey Creek is really looking forward to us hosting these small private events. So a good turnout from the club members would be a huge blessing!! If you’re needing any fishing tackle, this would be a good excuse / opportunity to stock up on tackle as *we will be supporting a local small business*. We will have the entire archery range so there will be plenty of room for social distancing.

Our guest speakers have kindly donated their time. So please, let's have a good turn out to thank them for helping our club. We understand not everyone can attend, whether being a long drive or maybe they don’t feel comfortable attending due to Covid. We have taken that into consideration and we will be streaming all seminars via Facebook live. We also plan to stream them virtually via Zoom pending a good internet connection. Instructions on how to stream or attend virtually will be sent later.

Guest Speakers:

Griffin Fernandes (2:30 - 3:00/3:15 with 10/15 minute Q&A afterwards)

Mike Quinlin  (3:30 - 4:00/4:15 with 10/15 minute Q&A afterwards)

Here's some very exciting news we want to share with all the club members, please spread the word to your partners. You’ll want to keep the afternoon open on these dates below.

January 16th - First Indy Bass Club 101 Seminar

February 27th - Second Indy Bass Club 101 Seminar

We are bringing back the Indy Bass Club 101’s. This is something that former IBC President Wayne Judd started years ago, they were always fun and very informative. The 101’s are basically fishing seminars hosted by the club. Typically we either invite special guests to speak or ask other club members to present a seminar. What’s better than fishing... well talking fishing. These seminars are totally optional, but it’s a good way to get out of the house for anyone struggling with cabin fever.

Jason Roberts (Owner at Honey Creek Tackle - HCT) has kindly given us plenty of space at his tackle shop to host the events. With most ALL the spring fishing shows being cancelled due to Covid, HCT is really looking forward to us hosting these small private events. So a good turnout from the club members would be a huge blessing!! If you’re needing any fishing tackle, this would be a good excuse / opportunity to get out of the house and stock up on tackle as we will be supporting a local small business. We will have the entire archery range so there will be plenty of room for social distancing.

PLEASE NOTE.. For the safety off everyone involved. MASKS ARE REQUIRED!!

Our guest speakers have kindly donated their time. So please, let’s have a good turn out to thank them for helping our club. We understand not everyone can attend, whether being a long drive or maybe they don’t feel comfortable attending due to Covid. We have taken that into consideration and we will be streaming all seminars via Facebook live. We will also stream them virtually via Zoom and / or Google Meet for those who would like to watch and interact virtually. Instructions on how to stream or attend virtually will be sent later.

Tentatively speaking, here’s our schedule.... I say tentatively because with Covid, plans could change any minute. We (Indy Bass Club) and HCT will have to abide by any rules / restrictions put in place by Johnson County. So if for any reason they are placed on lockdown, we may look for another venue “or” we will stream virtually for all to watch and interact. If we have to limit our attendance we will abide those same rules / restrictions.

Without further ado.... Here’s our schedule and guest speakers.

****First event is Saturday January 16th - (Tentative 2:00pm start time)

Guest Speakers:

Griffin Fernandes

-Griffin is a long time friend of Indy Bass Club and well known in the local fishing community. Here’s few of his most notable accomplishments. The first one many of us remember, which is him weighing in 23.43 pounds at Geist in 2013 for a youth tournament **INSANE**. 2014 IBF Youth State Champion, 2014 FLW SAF State Champion. 2015 Indiana State Team qualifier, 2015 IBF High School State Champion. 2017 Bass Nation High School State Champion. He now fishes the FLW College circuit for the # 1 ranked college in the nation Adrian College.

-If anyone has kids, or youth, this would be a good opportunity to see one of the most respectful and accomplished young anglers in Indiana.

Mike Quinlin

-Quinlin is arguably one of the “best” and “most consistent” bass tournament fishermen in the area. Indiana State Team qualifier. 4 FLW / BFL career wins and 35 FLW / BFL career Top 10 Finishes. Currently fishes 2 FLW / BFL Divisions, IBF, Hoosier Opens, Fishers of Men, and USA Bassin Series. 2017 IBF Invitational Classic Champion at Madison on the Ohio River.

-Mike has a wealth of knowledge of many IDNR Reservoirs including Monroe and Brookville Reservoir. This would be a good opportunity for members to question and take notes as both those reservoirs are on our schedule.

****Second event is Saturday February 20th (Tentative 2:00pm start time)

Guest Speakers:

Brody McWilliams

-Accomplished YouTube Producer, Director and creator of @WheelerFishing. Most notable for being the one behind the camera capturing all the great footage for Jacob Wheelers YouTube page. He also used to be a central Indiana Fishing Guide, and well known for being great with sonar and boating electronics. I would be here for hours typing his accomplishments  at so many levels, including high school, IBF, and college. So instead you can read all that on his website. https://www.fishindy.com/brody-mcwilliams

-Brody travels most everywhere Jacob Wheeler goes to fish. This seminar will be very interesting hearing all the stories and lessons he’s learned from behind the camera of the #1 Ranked Angler in the world.

Terry McWilliams

-Arguably one the best and most accomplished anglers in our area. Long time central Indiana Fishing Guide, started Fish Indy Guide Service in 2007 (www.FishIndy.com). Most notable for his 4th place finish in 2007 at “THE Bassmaster Classic” at Lay Lake, where he’s credited for making the now popular “Stupid Tube” technique famous. Top 10 finish FLW Phoenix Bass Fishing League 2008 All-American at Lake Hamilton in Arkansas. 2007 Northern Champion of the B.A.S.S National Championship. Top 5 finish at The 2008 Bass Federation National Championship. Multiple Top 5 / 10 finishes in B.A.S.S. Federation Nation. 14 FLW / BFL career Top 10 Finishes. Multiple Qualifier for Both Indiana State Teams, 15+ IBFN State Teams & 10+ TBF State Teams. 2010 & 2011 Fishers of Men Midwest Champions.

-Terry has been a Legend in Indiana Fishing for years, so it's always great to hear him speak. He’s also the grandfather and mentor of Brody, so this will be a unique setting with them two as our guests. With a wealth of knowledge, he continues to mentor the rising stars of the sport.

December 10, 2020

I know many have already seen the schedule on facebook. We also needed to send out a formalized announcement to show the members whom don't follow facebook.

Here is the 2021 Indy Bass Club schedule. We tallied all the votes, the local lakes "and" DNR lakes that received the highest votes are on the schedule, with the exception of one lake and we will explain why later at a meeting. Over 85% of the club voted “Yes” to purchasing a licenses for 3 different states (includes Indiana). Our concern was the members on a tight or strict budget, after talking to some of the original members, my dad Rick, and Tom Nelis, both retired and on a budget. Seniors now receive a heavy discount on their Indiana fishing license. So they are now comfortable buying a second out of state license.

Pending no lock downs due to COVID, this schedule is final, dates and locations have been confirmed with Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky DNR as well as all other lake property management. All permits have been filed where necessary and all lakes have been properly registered with the respective offices / personnel for all 3 states.

This schedule is very unique, it offers a variety of lakes, staying mostly south early spring trying to stay warm, then venturing further north as temperatures warm. Wrapping up the season with our classic on beautiful Lake Cumberland. The officers chose this lake with a few specific things in mind. It will pose a challenge for everyone, we feel anyone can win this tourney. Also with plenty of lodging close to the ramp where many teams will be staying a few hundred feet from one another, everyone can socialize. The officers want to get back to the roots of what makes a great club, by trying to make camaraderie, friendships, teaching, and learning the TOP priorities over competition in general. Don't get me wrong, it's always fun to win or cash a check, but it would also be fun to see the next Jacob Wheeler, or KVD come from our club. I feel it's my duty to try my best to create an environment to make that possible.

It should be a VERY fun year to be part of Indy Bass Club. Stay tuned, we have several more big announcements coming the next few days you all will enjoy.

kind regards,

JRay

Greetings,

To all 2020 Teams. If you missed the IBC Banquet and haven’t confirmed your spot for the upcoming 2021 season. Please respond by sending us an email to let us know if you are coming back for 2021. Please make arrangements to pay your dues ($65 per team), and get your opportunity to fill out the ballet to select the lakes for the 2021 schedule. Those ballots need to be emailed back by Nov. 1st in order to be counted.

A few new updates... we have created a club PayPal account to accept payments for 2021 Dues, 2021 tourney fees, etc...

Going forward. Please use the following email address to send money via PayPal: Indybassclub@gmail.com

With everyone still dealing with the COVID situation. We are pushing for everyone to continue using or start using PayPal for all future payments. It’s just safer for Todd not having to collect and handle cash, and it actually make his job easier because it allows everyone to pay ahead of time. Feel free to pay ahead, pay the full season off ahead of time, make a donation, etc... We will still collect cash at the ramp but we would really like to use PayPal for everything if possible. It is safe, I’ve used it for my business for 5 years and have never had issues.

When using PayPal, please be sure to select the “Sending to Family / Friend” option. Otherwise the you and/or the club is charged a small fee. Also in the comments/notes section during the transaction. Please list your name and details on what the payment is for.. dues, donation, tourney fee, etc...

That's all for now...

Kind regards,

Josh Ray

A huge shout out to Mike and Michelle Schwomeyer and In-Stiles Hardwoods for their generous donation to Indy Bass Club!! We have the best members around. Going into 2021 season, this will most definitely help give us a jump start to purchase some much needed upgrades.

THANK YOU!!

October 02, 2020

Greetings,

This is Josh Ray, representing the new officers I wanted to reach out to everyone and tell you about a few exciting things we have already started working on. This post will be long winded so please bare with me.

First I want to remind everyone we’re almost one week away until our end of year banquet. October 10th at 6:30PM is the date and time, location is “The Grill” in McCordsville. With our help the current officers will still run and coordinate the banquet and the Halloween Havoc Tourney on the 24th.

We hope everyone can make it as you don’t want to miss the first new process we’re implementing. At the banquet we’re giving members the opportunity to select your lakes for the 2021 schedule. Each team/member that has paid their 2021 dues, will be given a ballot with an opportunity to vote in your 2021 lakes. Results will be tallied on Nov 1st and provided to the club to see, those votes dictate the upcoming schedule. Why Nov 1st? Because we understand not everyone will attend the banquet, so we are providing those teams an opportunity to pay their dues via PayPal or USPS, and still get the opportunity to submit their votes digitally. The dates for the schedule will be determined at a later date, the officers have another meeting scheduled for Nov. 4th to start setting those dates as it will be an ongoing process.

Something else that is new. Facebook is a great way to quickly communicate and serves its purpose but in regards to historical information it sometimes gets time consuming searching for a particular picture, or points standings, or rules. So we have created a new Indy Bass Club website to coincide with Facebook. It was totally free to the club and will offer easier ways to locate points standings, member names, rules, event calendar, etc.. and will stay up to date along with Facebook. We would like to host each member's picture, and a profile on the page obviously at their discretion. But it would be nice to put faces with names of new and old members we may not know.

A few items every member needs to be made aware of. It was brought to our attention by the current officers that most all the equipment we use each tourney is getting some age, and they suggest getting replacements. We are in need of new scales or get our current scales recalibrated as it will not lock on a specific weight, we also need a new table as our current table doesn’t belong to the club, and new measuring tub as I’ve been informed it’s on its last leg, the same goes for the white board that we write our weights on. We also pay $690 for insurance. We “The Officers” are also including two Indiana DNR managed lakes into our schedule. You the members will vote on those two lakes. In doing all this incurs more expenses, more insurance and two state lake permits at $150 each. With all that said... we feel it’s in the best interest in the club to suspend any annual club dues discounts, we would also like to raise the annual dues from $60 to $65. Moving forward it’s going to take a little more money invested into the club and it’s members, in order for us to make that next step in maintaining our club status, which separates us from most other local clubs. Also in order to take us to the next level and adding DNR state lakes to the schedule, keeping insurance on the club will require a little more funds. Please note, we understand anytime you raise fees, it's alarming to some and raises awareness and red flags. We as officers have already agreed in 2021 to present the club with a yearly financial statement so each member can see where every dollar goes.

Why add state DNR lakes? Most of us know that many of these lakes used to be great 20 years ago. But they used to receive a ton of fishing pressure and  DNR never properly maintained the resources. They were so bad many clubs quit fishing them, Indy Bass included. Well the last 5 years DNR and other programs have added fish attractors and enhancements and the tourney weights have soared. I don’t want to miss the bus on these opportunities for the club. Timing is crucial on when we schedule to fish these lakes, we are aware of that and want to provide a great opportunity for teams to have a variety of ways to catch fish similar to when we go out of state, and potentially weigh in some heavy weights. Those opportunities are there now, these fisheries are thriving but we need to fish them now before they get over pressured again.

So going into the banquet, we want all members to be aware of this small increase. We most definitely want to keep all our teams, and hope this doesn’t push anyone away. We would love to have all 25 teams represented, pay their dues and vote. This would allow us to move forward generating the 2021 schedule.

We want to thank all the current and outgoing officers for all their hard work and dedication this past season. We all know 2020 was a challenge due to COVID but those guys did an outstanding job pulling it off and should be applauded for their time and efforts. As much heck as I gave them, I know it wasn’t easy.

The new officers are excited to try and fill those shoes and take IBC to the next level, we are full of new ideas, and looking forward to working with each and every one of you. Hopefully we can make your 2021 Indy Bass season the best one yet.

We’ve already met and had lengthy discussions on doing some new random club events as well as we want to try to bring back some of the events from the past that has made the camaraderie in Indy Bass Club second to none. So please stay tuned..

Listed below are the elected officers contact info. Please save our information.

A big congrats goes out to team Parker/Cross on sealing the deal and wrapping up the 2020 IBC Points Championship!!!

As we stated at the Classic Dinner the Banquet will be held at "The Grill" in McCordsville where we had it last year on October 10th at 6PM.    We will determine the Elite 8 lake at the banquet and present end of season awards.   We will also pass out the end of season questionnaire as we have in the past to help the officers with lake choices and other items on the docket for the 2021 season.

The Elite 8 tournament will be held on October 31st at a Lake yet TBD.

Team Curtis/Curtis were able to edge out Team Judd/Johnson in the Elite 8 race and took the final spot.

Team Ray/Ray took the wildcard spot by finishing 3rd place in the Classic and will fish with the rest of the Elite 8 field.

Here is your list of 2021 Officers as voted on at the Classic Dinner:
