In Drones We Just was an app idea I had in the summer of 2023. I was getting into the mathematical side of tuning systems and realized that most drones we acquire for practicing intonation are unclear how they have been tuned. I got the idea to create drones in the layout of a Tonnetz, which would allow for intonation practice that can be calibrated relative to the key, A4 frequency, and instrumental variables. That way, you could tune with a drone that would match a piano, or the low C string of a cello.
Musicians that use their hands (almost every instrumentalist) will find it annoying to have to stop and switch drones everytime the bass note changes in a passage. While recording is an option, it doesn't provide the option to switch back and forth in practice. This app hopes to offer a solution to those of us with bluetooth foot pedals. Since most foot pedals function as hardware keyboards, the app treats arrow key input to switch between drones in a user customized list. If your pedal brand doesn't seem to function with the app, please let me know so I can find a way to support it!
