Hello CD1 Activists,
We have big news on something we’ve been working and waiting for: Congressman Bishop has THREE Town Halls in the works for late August. These are the preliminary details, but are subject to change. Wednesday, the 23rd, he will be in Vernal. No other information about that location was revealed. Thursday 24th, he will be at the Layton Christian Academy, 2352 East Highway 193. On Friday the 25th, he will be at the Brigham City USU campus, 989 S Main Street. Both Wasatch Front events should start at 6 PM, if the staffers’ plans hold together.
Indivisible Ogden will hold our Citizens’ Voices Planning Meeting on the Tuesday August 15th at 6:30 in the Board Room of the Roy Southwest Branch Library, 2039 W 4000 S. We will find the best ways for our messages to be heard at the upcoming Town Halls. Our goal is to overcome corporate and lobbyist influences and return the legislative process to a method of representing the best interests of Utahns.
From now until our meeting, we need ALL HANDS ON DECK to gather and report information about Bishop’s whereabouts during his District WORK Period, call his offices with your concerns and submit questions to us if you are unable to attend one or more of the THs.
I was told Bishop was off doing something for his Natural Resources Committee duties during the first of this week. We want to know when he’ll be in Utah and if he has any public events scheduled during this five week break from DC. Who can take on the task of tracking him and reporting back to us?
The Indivisible Guide website contains valuable information about attending Town Halls. Please read and review these ideas and then share your own ideas with us via replies to this email, on Facebook, or at our upcoming Citizens’ Voices Planning Meeting. Click on some of the other links in the Indivisible Guide’s website and see how dense and rich the information is. It’s impressive how sophisticated, and what a great resource, the new kid on the block has become over this organization’s mere seven months of existence. Thank you, National, for giving us inspiration, structure and support.
If you missed our last meeting with our Western Regional Field Worker from Indivisible National, you missed an opportunity to be inspired and congratulated for all that we’ve accomplished in the last six months. Melissa Shohet is perfect for her job. She is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She provided an informative overview of our National Organization’s operation and structure. She is there as a resource to us to amplify our work. Now we just need a dedicated social media crew to take on the responsibilities of documenting our efforts and passing them on to National. Who is interested in this task? This will be CRITICAL at the Town Halls. If it’s not recorded, it didn’t happen.
A HUGE THANK YOU is also in order to the hardy core of activists who continue to show up despite the heat and the sacrifices they make of not doing other things during this busy time of the year. You are the people who keep me pushing past the exhaustion that I know is endemic to all of us who are worried about the despicable place we are in and are working to restore our future.
Indivisible Ogden made two weekly commitments for the summer: Continue our Resist Trump Tuesday (RTT) actions at 11:30-12:30 on 25th and Washington and Register Voters on Saturdays from 9-10:30 at the Ogden Farmers Market near the Federal Building. We need YOU to step up to the plate and help! Last week, at the Farmer’s Market, only one other person showed up. There were only four of us on the corner on Tuesday. Please, take a turn and show your support for our unrelenting efforts on your behalf!
On Saturday, we also have the Ogden Pride Festival from 12-8 pm at the Ogden Amphitheater. I will be there until the Saliva Sisters get done with their act about 3:30 pm. That will be a long enough day for me. Is there anyone who will be down there later who would like to hand out our pamphlets and perhaps continue to register voters? The Universalist Church is going to have a table along with about 100 other vendors there. Perhaps we can team up with them or another friendly vendor as a base station.
On Tuesday, August 8th, Angela Urrea arranged an observation of our mail-in ballot procedures. Daniel Wade, Elections Officer for Weber County , will show us how mail in ballots are counted. He is excited to show us with "live" ballots from the municipal primaries. We will meet in the lobby of the Weber Center, on the northeast corner of 24th and Washington at 9:50 to walk to room 115. Please go to our event page on Facebook, the calendar on MeetUp to RSVP or send a reply email if you plan on attending.
Our regular RTT action will follow our vote counting procedures educational opportunity. If you don’t find us on the corner of 25th and Washington, look down 25th Street. We are discussing whether to move back to the Federal Building some of the weeks in August since it is the District WORK Period when our Members of Congress SHOULD be in Utah.
Let’s push forward and make August a month that we will be noticed!

There is much more to discuss and plan for, but I am more than out of steam for the evening and I want to get this sent tonight.
In Solidarity,
