About

The Tribology Society of India (TSI) is the foremost professional body dedicated to advancing tribology—the science of friction, wear, and lubrication—in the country. Established as a non-profit organization in June 1989, TSI brings together experts from academia, industry, and research institutions to promote awareness and best practices in tribology. Originally headquartered at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in Hyderabad, TSI has been operating from its registered office at the Indian Oil R&D Centre in Faridabad since December 2010. Affiliated with the International Tribology Council in the UK, TSI is a key player in the global tribology community.

Tribology activities in India began formally in 1972 with the First World Conference on Industrial Tribology organized by the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. Since then, numerous national and international conferences have been held, solidifying India’s role in this field. TSI plays a pivotal role by organizing the biennial IndiaTrib and TriboIndia conferences and the annual TSI Summer School in Tribology, fostering knowledge exchange and collaborative learning. By hosting these events across the country, TSI fulfills its mission to support and disseminate advancements in tribology, contributing significantly to both academic research and industrial applications.
