This is a pretty big stumbling block for this community. It’s been argued about for decades, and it’s not going to stop being a dividing factor until it’s changed. Yes, there’ll be plenty of adults with bruised egos. Yes, plenty of local businesses will make tons of money selling shirts with headdresses and things like “Forever Indians.” But over time, we could come together for the students and the community and celebrate being “Indianola,” and acknowledging that holding onto something so divisive just isn’t worth it.
