WACS Political Theory a definition of MAGA Republicanism
Just as toxic as the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant of 150 years ago, the new WASP, White, American, Christian, and Straight has taken the right wing of American politics by storm and has proven itself to be just as corrupting and inconsistent in the modern day. Though some may seemingly buck one or perhaps two of these ideas, those who do make up for it in an increased militancy in enforcing the remaining points.
White: definition has expanded in this day and age to be a mostly “normal” look and accent that roughly match a western european descendant without a foreign accent. Though seemingly a more broad definition than the white anglo-saxon of 150 years ago, this proves itself to be just as racist and derogatory as it has ever been.
American: different from the first this idea stems from an idea of American Exceptionalism and a blind faith that things must be better in the USA than anywhere else because it is the USA. From Buy American movements to anti-immigrant policies. This idea longs for an isolationist and homogeneous country that has never existed and could not exist now, with an ironic love of the old Confederacy as a long lost bastion of these thoughts.
Christian: A long way from the technical definition of “followers of Jesus Christ” modern American “Christians” are a block of people who view themselves as the only true soldiers of God under siege by the modern world. They use their professed beliefs in things like pro-life and family to savagely attack people and organizations that they do not agree with. Far from loving others and serving neighbors, these “Christians” generally prefer the God of the old testament who would kill the enemies of His people, and indeed that is their most fervent wish.
Straight: I would argue that this point is the most dangerous of the four. Although they are all toxic, this “hetero-normative” mindset actively damages every age group and gender. Strict heterosexuality on its own is kind of like being vegan, slightly annoying but unlikely to cause anyone pain, but the right has twisted even this into a cause that actively hunts for anyone who steps out of line and enforces a rigid system of behavior onto men and women who believe in it. Men must be strong, emotionless save for anger, and sex driven, leading inevitably to angry studs who hurt everyone on their way to fornicate with something. While women are required to be wife material, therapist, child bearers, and submissive for the aforementioned men. Everyone is scored by how well they conform to these behaviors, with those who do not perform well being ostracized.
On their own each of these has deep seated problems that reach to the the core of what is wrong with America and Americans, but together they represent a dangerous and often violent ideology that seeks to “correct” the world to fit its view, regardless of how many people who don’t fit within it.
