Indiana Writers for Democratic Action:
A community of writers and readers committed to the core American principle that civil liberties exist for all. Our freedoms include the right to vote and have our votes counted; to gather, protest, and speak freely; to safely write, read, and share our stories; and to access learning that enriches our lives.
Words hold real power.
Particularly in this time of peril, with our democracy under threat, we are all in danger, especially the most vulnerable among us. Conversations must be fostered and action taken to help safeguard our constitutionally guaranteed civil rights.
To put these principles into practice, WDA Indiana pledges to:
Build, support, and represent a community of writers.
Respond to threats to free speech.
Forge connections with the broader community through social media, libraries, bookstores, festivals and other community gathering places.
Encourage civic engagement at the local, state and national levels
