Rules and Phases
Transportation: Douala's transport system faces many challenges, including traffic congestion, inadequate public transport, and poor road conditions. An AI-focused hackathon could help find solutions to these challenges by using AI to optimise traffic flow, real-time public transport planning, and route optimisation for freight. AI could also help improve road safety by monitoring road conditions in real-time and predicting potential accidents.
Waste Management: Douala generates a significant amount of waste on a daily basis and the city faces numerous waste management challenges such as inadequate waste collection infrastructure, poor waste disposal practises, and inadequate recycling programmes. Using AI to automate waste management, sort waste intelligently, and predict waste generation patterns could give a push to the city by optimising recycling routes and identifying recycling opportunities in the city.
Energy: The city faces numerous challenges in the energy sector, such as inadequate infrastructure, frequent power outages, and high energy costs. Leveraging AI for energy demand forecasting, energy distribution optimization, smart grid management and identifying areas for energy conservation, and providing real-time monitoring of energy usage in buildings and homes are some of the things that could bring a difference.

We want participants to focus on developing a high-quality AI solution that addresses a specific problem, offers a clear business plan, and has the potential to attract sponsors or partners:
Team Formation: Teams of 2 to 4 members should begin working on their project as soon as they submit their ideas. We encourage mixed-gender teams and teams with different disciplines.
Phase I: Participants should identify a specific problem faced in Douala from the target sectors that could be addressed using AI technology. The problem should be well-defined, significant, and feasible to solve using AI. The first phase consists of submitting their ideas via the following form. The best ideas will be selected and will continue to the next phase.
Phase II: Selected ideas will be assigned a mentor that will guide the team toward the production of their final project. The final project in this phase is a clear report following instructions from a template that will be sent to the teams.
Phase III: This is the final phase where teams will pitch their ideas in front of a jury and they are going to be judged and the winners will be none on that day. Participants will be judged based on criteria such as creativity, feasibility, impact, business viability, technical proficiency, and presentation skills. There will be exciting prices for the 3 best projects.

Our hackathon partners have generously offered the following prizes:
Sparte Robotic: The winners will have the opportunity to participate in internships and training programs at Sparte Robotic's startup. This unique experience will allow them to dive into the world of robotics and gain hands-on skills within an innovative company.
V-PMO: The winning team of the hackathon will receive a training program to prepare for the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. This globally recognized certification in project management opens up numerous professional opportunities. The value of this training program is 350,000 XAF.
Cohere: The hackathon winners will be awarded credits of $2,000, $1,000, and $500 for the first, second, and third place respectively. These credits can be used to support their future projects, invest in technological resources, or finance entrepreneurial initiatives.
