History

Before TGJAY

It was the morning of November 2020. A 13 year old kid who goes by the online nickname YAYSUU would be helping his friend, Midi, make a Halloween special for his webseries, MSSam.

As YAYSUU was working on it, he had the bright idea to tell his other friend, Astericc, about the production. Astericc got excited and jealous, so he wanted to make a Halloween special of his own. But what is a Halloween special without a show? So YAYSUU told Astericc that he needed his own show, and so, production of a brand new webseries would begin, going by "The Astericc Show", with the script being written by Astericc and YAYSUU. The animation would be done using still images drawn by YAYSUU, along with additional animated scenes being created by Midi Bloxington. The pilot would give viewers a glimpse at what TGJAY was originally gonna be like, showing the original duo, "Astericc and YAYSUU" going on an adventure to the Gamestation Dimension (a parody of early 3d console games) with the use of YAYSUU's "Transdimensionalizertronner 3000 EX" (or TRON30 as Astericc didn't really like how long the name was).

The pilot was broadcasted to YouTube on November 30th, 2020 and since then a second episode has never surfaced. Originally, Jarek wanted to star as the third member of the group, but due to some major complications between both Jarek and Astericc, the original series was since cancelled.

Early Development

After the cancellation of The Astericc Show, all rights to the show would be given to Jarek, who would later form the Incredible Dog Studio. At the time, Midi (secondary animator and editor) was still fuming about how the original test pilot failed due to the argument between Astericc, Jarek, and YAYSUU, but would later get over it (kinda).

Originally, The Great Jarek and YAYSUU would be animated in the same way as the original pilot, but this version of the pilot never made it past the concept stage. As for the designs of Jarek, YAYSUU, and Fringlebert, they looked completely different from the final show.

Jarek originally sported Red Sonic Shoes as opposed to the Light Blue colored shoes that he has in the final and would also have a much shorter hairstyle. YAYSUU's super suit would appear to have slightly different shoulder pads, and Fringlebert would appear to have shorter hair, peach/pale skin, 3D glasses, a black jacket with red shirt, blue shorts, and black sneakers, instead of being all grayscale, wearing completely black sunglasses, and wearing a grayscale version of YAYSUU's suit.

Eventually, a decision was made to have the series be animated using Pencil2d, an alternative to Adobe Flash, as not only would it help make the animation process easier, but it would look much better than the original limited animation style that The Astericc Show was going for. But at the same time, Midi would create an animation test using FireAlpaca and Vegas Movie Studio, showing a slightly different looking version of the show.

The animation test showed what appeared to be a slightly higher quality version of The Astericc Show's animation style, but with a bit of Limited Animation tropes thrown in, such as a wraparound background and a looping walk cycle for the two protagonists. This animation test would not be used as not only would it cause the series to have a massive artstyles shift, but it would result in the episodes taking much longer to produce.

Halfway during the pilot episode's development, Midi was beginning to feel burnt out, as not only was he working on the pilot, he was also working really hard on animating and editing together the third episode of that MSSam series at the beginning. But due to the intense amount of work and real life stress, the third episode of MSSam would eventually be canceled and left unfinished.

Present Day

Eventually, the pilot episode of The Great Jarek & YAYSUU would premiere on July 21st, 2021 on the Incredible Dog channel. The pilot wasn't as well recieved as The Astericc Show's pilot episode, but it did garner a bit of attention. The episode would introduce the main protagonists (Jarek and YAYSUU) along with the main antagonist of the series (Fringlebert). The pilot's animation quality was mixed, as it was animated by only two people (Midi and YAYSUU), with YAYSUU's animation appearing more polished and matching with the intended artstyle, while Midi's animation attempted to imitate YAYSUU's artstyle, thus leading us to where we are today. Keep a lookout for more episodes and other series, and stay incredible, dogs!
