Travel and Visa Information (Foreign Nationals)
Travel Information
The Indo-Norwegian Conference on Mathematical Structures in Computation will be held from November 30 to December 4, 2026, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Mumbai, India. The closest airport is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), Mumbai. It is well-connected to all major cities in India and many international destinations. The IIT Bombay campus, is approximately 10 km from the airport. For non-Indian participants, we may arrange airport pick-up and drop-off. Alternatively, one can take an Uber or a prepaid taxi from the airport.
The participation will be by invitation. There are no registration fees, and meals during the conference (lunch, tea/coffee and dinner) will be provided by the hosts. However, participants are expected to arrange for their own travel and also accommodation in nearby hotels. Here are some accommodation options that are not far from IIT Bombay: Meluha: The Fern, Westin, Rodas, Beatle, Marriott Apartments, Ibis. We are trying to negotiate special rates at some of these hotels, and information about the same will be made available soon. A very small number of rooms are available at a guest house on the campus of IIT Bombay and you may contact the organizers if you wish to avail of this.
Visa Information
Most foreign nationals will require a visa to travel to India. We suggest that you apply for a Conference Visa through the official Government of India visa website: Indian Visa Online
Citizens of many countries may be eligible for an e-Conference Visa, which can be obtained online through: e-Visa for India
Once you complete the application and pay the applicable fees, you are likely to receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in approximately 72 hours. You can travel to India with the ETA and, upon arrival, obtain the e-Visa stamp on your passport at the designated immigration counters.
When applying for an e-Conference Visa, you may be asked to provide the following documents:
Political Clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India
Event Clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India
To obtain the MEA clearance, we need urgently the information requested in the registration form. Once the clearance is received, we will inform you and share a copy of it. Note that MHA clearance is not required for our conference, since:
We do not have any participants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistani origin, or Stateless persons; and
None of our participants are required to visit any Restricted or Protected Areas in India.
Please refer to the official MHA website for further information and frequently asked questions:

Thus, you may attach a copy of the MEA clearance with your visa application and indicate that MHA clearance is not applicable in your case.
