Dear Incline Families,
Happy Homecoming Week! Our Highlanders have been busy on the courts, course, fields, and even the stage. Here are some highlights from the past week:
Congratulations to Gavin Kratz and Henry Taves for each scoring a hat trick (three goals in one game!) against the Capitol Thunder in San Jose. Together they scored over half of their team’s goals — way to go Incline hockey players!
Even with a bug affecting the team, our runners showed resilience and pride:
Girls Team: Shelby won her JV race with a personal best, and Saige placed 5th. Both earned Top 5 t-shirts.
Boys Team: Missing two top runners, the boys competed in JV as well. Four broke the 20-minute mark, with Asher winning in 18:10 — a Top 20 all-time IHS 5k! Oliver finished 5th, and Salomon 7th, helping the boys finish 2nd overall behind Carson.
Next up: the Deconstruction Relays at Whittell!
Our brand-new Drama Club has officially launched and is off to a strong start. We can’t wait to see their first production!
Boosters have designed the official IHS Letterman Jacket — customizable to reflect academics, athletics, and school activities. If enough students are interested, the vendor will come to IHS to help with:
Choosing colors and styles
Taking measurements for a perfect fit
Reviewing available patches
Customizing placement of patches, varsity letter, and name
💰 Boosters are contributing $50 per jacket this year, and orders will arrive before the holidays.

Great news about a newly added local ACT test center site. We have heard from many parents and students about the lack of ACT test center sites in our district. We are excited to share that students will now be able to participate in the National ACT administration on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Debbie Smith CTE Academy.
Due the late addition of a test center in our area, ACT will provide vouchers to waive the late registration fee and the change of test center fee. If students have already registered to test in another city, they may log in to their ACT account and change their test center location.
We know this is very short notice, but this is a critical opportunity for our students. Please help us spread the word to all high school students and families as soon as possible. The attached flyers can be printed and shared with staff, students and parents.
Thank you for your support in making sure our students don’t miss out on this chance!
Exciting news for Incline High School! Junior Assembly is in it's third year at IHS!
A decades long tradition for Washoe County High Schools has finally included Incline Village for first time in history!
What IS Junior Assembly? http://www.juniorassemblyofreno.com
The Junior Assembly is a unique tradition that was founded in 1946 in Reno, Nevada and is still the only organization of its kind. The group of mothers who formed this non-profit organization back in 1946 had high school age children who all attended boarding schools outside of Nevada. They found when their children returned for holiday and summer breaks, there was a disconnect with their friends who remained at home. It was at that time Junior Assembly was formed. They worked hard to put together a dance with focus on etiquette, manners, and college scholarships for the kids in attendance. The idea was to bring together students from different backgrounds and high schools to have the chance to all spend one special night celebrating and making lasting memories.
Over the years, the Junior Assembly has evolved in many ways. JA has a 3 pronged approach, Social, Philanthropic and Scholarship. JA today, has over 1200 members from public, private, and charter schools throughout Reno, Sparks, and Lake Tahoe. Each year JA distributes over $11,000 in scholarships for 2 seniors from each school.
Being a part of Junior Assembly provides students the opportunity participate with others from multiple of high schools around Washoe County, socialize, attend the JA Dance and give back to their local communities. JA also represents the unique experience to add to their college resume. JA provides students with an element of community service by participating in our yearly activity which benefits different organizations throughout the Reno/Sparks/Tahoe area. 2024/25's philanthropic beneficiary is Project 150. https://www.project150reno.org/ an amazing organization which helps any High School student in need. JA participants will help make that goal a reality. JA also has a philanthropic partnership with Dance with Grace. https://dancewithgrace17.my.canva.site/. Both groups provide invaluable opportunities for our youth.
How JA Works:
· This process occurs only during sophomore year. The number of students chosen from each school varies from school to school depending on school size. Incline High School has been allocated 12 students, per class, 6 female and 6 male students.
· Interested Students nominate themselves by scanning a QR code and completing the accompanying form. Only nominated students will be considered for JA. You must nominate yourself to be considered. The nomination window opens September 18th this year and will close 10/4.
· Once the nomination period has ended, a randomly selected computer algorithm will pick the allotted number of students per school. IHS has been allotted 12 Students per grade, This number might increase with the large Sophomore class size.
· Students are required to write a hand written acceptance letter to their class sponsor to accept their bid. Students are also responsible for paying their one time $160 membership fee at this time. Students who accept bids are encouraged to bring a date. There is no fee for dates. The membership fee covers the dues for the entire multi-year participation in JA.
· Once a student attends 2 dances throughout their high school years, they will automatically be entered into the scholarship drawing which occurs in their senior year. 1 senior boy and 1 senior girl from each school will be awarded a $500 scholarship (which is also randomly selected and announced that night of the dance).
· JA is a private event and does uphold a Black Tie dress code that makes the night even more unique and formal for the students.

Dogs of Incline High School
You may have heard of Humans of New York—well, here at IHS we celebrate the Dogs of Incline High School! 🐶💚
We’re especially lucky to be neighbors with the Pet Network, where many of our students volunteer and intern. The Pet Network and its amazing staff have been wonderful friends to both our humans and our furry companions.
Do you have a special four-legged friend? 🐕🐾 We’d love to feature them! Send a photo and a short note about what makes your pet unique (though we know they’re all special!) to tcahill@washoeschools.net.
☝️ 🐾 Meet Archer! Archer is a lovable Bernedoodle who was so excited to stop by and spend time with his human, Alexis. With his big personality and fluffy charm, Archer brings smiles wherever he goes! 💚✨
🐾 Meet Purdey! Purdey is a one-year-old Spinone Italiano with a big heart and a very important job ahead—she’s training to become a therapy dog. Her human is our very own Ms. Cahill!
💚 Last April, Purdey faced a tough challenge when her hock tendon detached and one of her bones broke. Thanks to the incredible care of Dr. Roybl and the amazing team at Pet Network’s Community Hospital, Purdey made a full recovery.
🎉 Today, she’s back to running, playing, and enjoying life with her sister, Fiocchi—just like any happy, energetic one-year-old pup should. 👇
☝️ 📘 Meet Vitiligo! Vitiligo is a true beauty with a love for learning—especially math! 🧮 She enjoys spending time in class and soaking up knowledge alongside her human, Mr. Manning. With her curious spirit, Vitiligo reminds us that learning is for everyone. 💚🐾 .
👈 Dr. Sheldon Cooper Ph.D. is a smart little fellow that was adopted by Ms. Lombardi. He was found after the Maui fires and brought to the Pet Network. Luckily Sheldon and Ms. Lombardi found each other, they are perfect companions for one another.
☝️ 🌟 Meet Pono! Pono is truly a star at Incline High School—he’s been part of our Highlander family for over five years! Always spreading joy and comfort, Pono has become a beloved presence on campus. His human is our wonderful Ms. Newbaker, and together they make a fantastic team. 💚🐾
☝️ ✨ Meet Denver! Denver is a gorgeous Golden Retriever who loves greeting Highlanders in the afternoon pickup line. 💛 She’s on her way to stardom as a proud Liberty Dog, and her human is our very own Ari. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things Denver will accomplish! 🐾🌟
☝️ 🚲 Meet Oakley! Oakley rides in style! 💚 Thanks to the creativity of his human Heath and Heath’s dad, Oakley has a one-of-a-kind custom riding vessel made just for him. This special setup lets Oakley cruise right alongside his family and enjoy every adventure. 🐾✨

📢 ATTENDANCE MATTERS! 📢
🚨 Did you know a student is considered CHRONICALLY ABSENT if they've missed 10% of these days?
📆 That's 18 days in the academic year! However, if you are absent 2 days a month you're on track to be chronically absent.
🩺 3 Exceptions that are EXEMPT from the 10% rule:
✅ Doctor's note (Medical, Mental, or Behavioral Health Professional)
✅ Religious Absence
✅ Our school nurse can verify illness and send a student home
How does it impact a student?
Students that are chronically absent will not have their DMV attendance verification forms signed to receive their driving permits.
Students that are chronically absent will not be able to attend dances (Homecoming, Prom, etc.). You can file an appeal with administration for extenuating circumstances (funeral, court, etc.): https://forms.office.com/r/QEDKwHEcBx
Want a senior parking spot? Spots will go to students that are not chronically absent in ranking order.
You miss 88 minutes of classroom instruction each class period. This cannot be duplicated and causes stress for students.
🕒TARDIES
Students exceeding 11 unexcused tardies in a quarter, will lose their off-campus privileges. Students that lose their off-campus privileges will be required to check in with our Assistant Principal Mr. Culbert in the lunchroom at the beginning of the lunch period and at the end.
Let's strive for excellent attendance! 📚👩🏫👨🏫
