How to install and configure the Webdev Application Server

Webdev is a powerful tool for creating web applications and websites that can connect to various databases and web services. However, to run your web projects locally or on a remote server, you need to install and configure the Webdev Application Server (WAS).

The WAS is a software component that allows you to execute web projects developed with Webdev on any Windows or Linux server. It supports PHP, ASP.NET, Java and CGI languages, as well as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB and other databases.

In this article, we will show you how to install and configure the WAS on a Windows server, using the latest version of Webdev 27. You can also follow the same steps for other versions of Webdev or other operating systems.

Step 1: Download the WAS

You can download the WAS from the official Webdev website: https://pcsoft.fr/st/telec/webdev27/index.html. You will need to enter your license number and password to access the download page. You can also request a free trial version if you don't have a license yet.

On the download page, you will find different versions of the WAS for different operating systems. Choose the one that matches your server's OS and architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). For example, if you have a Windows Server 2019 64-bit machine, you should download the file named "WEBDEV 27 Serveur d'Application - Update 4 - Windows 64 bits".

Save the file to your local computer and then copy it to your server using a FTP client or a remote desktop connection.

Step 2: Install the WAS

On your server, locate the file that you copied and double-click on it to launch the installation wizard. You will see a welcome screen that asks you to choose your language. Select your preferred language and click Next.

The next screen will show you the license agreement. Read it carefully and accept it if you agree. Then click Next.

The next screen will ask you to choose the installation folder. You can keep the default folder or change it if you want. Then click Next.

The next screen will ask you to choose the components that you want to install. You can select all of them or only the ones that you need for your web projects. For example, if you don't use PHP or Java, you can uncheck them. Then click Next.

The next screen will ask you to configure some options for the WAS. You can change the port number, the service name, the log file name and other settings if you want. Otherwise, you can keep the default values. Then click Next.

The next screen will show you a summary of your choices. Review them and click Install to start the installation process.

The installation may take a few minutes depending on your server's performance and network speed. When it is finished, you will see a confirmation screen that tells you that the WAS has been installed successfully. Click Finish to exit the wizard.

Step 3: Configure the WAS

After installing the WAS, you need to configure it to run your web projects. To do that, you need to use the Webdev Administration Center (WAC), which is a web interface that allows you to manage your web projects and settings.

To access the WAC, open your web browser and type in the following URL: http://localhost:8080/wd260awp/wd260awp.exe/_admin/. Replace localhost with your server's IP address or domain name if you are accessing it remotely. Replace 8080 with your port number if you changed it during installation.

You will see a login screen that asks you for a username and password. The default username is admin and the default password is admin. Enter them and click OK.

You will see the WAC dashboard that shows you some information about your server and WAS status. You can also access different menus and tabs from here.

To configure your web projects, click on the Projects tab. You will see a 66dfd1ed39
