We want the government and business to:

1. Prioritise stabilising the climate

2. Stop the Adani Coal Mine

3. Introduce an emissions trading scheme

This isn't a political issue. It's a health issue! We are sick of the inaction on climate change.

More Information:

1. Prioritise stabilising the climate

A stable climate is necessary to protect the environment, our food production, our water supply, our very way of living. Scientists are clear that our business as usual approach threatens this stability (IPCC Report). Politicians, senior government bureaucrats and business leaders must consider the climate impacts of all their policy decisions if we are to stabilise the climate.

This means reconsidering existing policies as well as more carefully scrutinising future decisions to ensure they have no negative impact on the climate.

2. Stop the Adani Coal Mine

Burning the coal from the Adani Coal Mine would generate billions of tones of carbon pollution fuelling climate change. Scientists tell us that this coal must stay in the ground if we hope to have a stable climate. Burning the coal from the mine would send our planet into irreversible climate change.

Companies with existing coal reserves are already threatened by Asset Stranding. Permitting further mines will only make the problem worse for existing miners. Put simply we must not allow the mine to go ahead. The National Day of InAction supports the Stop Adani campaign.

3. Introduce an emissions trading scheme

We need to put a price on carbon that reflects the real cost of using dirty fossil fuels and helps us transition quickly to a clean energy future. We need to put a cap on how much carbon pollution we create and we need to reduce that over time. An Emissions Trading Scheme will do that so business can do business with certainty. It is also the only certain way to meet our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement. This will also bring us into line with other countries who have introduced an emissions trading scheme. This quick video will show how it works.
