Inácio F. Araújo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, Management and Sociology at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP), Brazil. He is a Research Associate at the University of São Paulo Regional and Urban Economics Lab (NEREUS) and serves as an Associate Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Estudos Econômicos.
He received his B.A. in Economics from the Federal University of Ceará (2011), his M.Sc. in Economics from the Federal University of Viçosa (2014), and his Ph.D. in Economics from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (2018).
His research lies at the intersection of applied economics and regional science. His primary interests include the economic modeling of production networks, the analysis of interindustry and interregional linkages, and the assessment of the economic impacts of extreme events. His work focuses on the development and application of economic models to inform policy formulation and evaluation.
Professor Araújo previously held lecturer appointments in economics at the University of São Paulo’s School of Economics, Business and Accounting (FEA/USP) from August 2021 to July 2022 and at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora in 2018. He was a Visiting Researcher in the Department of City and Regional Planning at Cornell University from August 2023 to July 2024 and at the Regional Research Institute at West Virginia University from July 2017 to February 2018.
His applied work includes contributions to projects sponsored by the African Development Bank, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the World Resources Institute, the Superintendência do Desenvolvimento da Amazônia, Banco do Nordeste, and other national and international organizations.
Professor Araújo is a member of the International Input-Output Association (IIOA), the Regional Science Association International (RSAI), and the Brazilian Regional Science Association (ABER). From 2018 to 2021, he served as Assistant to the Editors of the Revista Brasileira de Estudos Regionais e Urbanos, the official journal of ABER, the Brazilian Section of the RSAI.
