To be eligible to join, the following statements must all be true of your organisation:
Your organisation/federation is structured, with written aims and defined roles
Your organisation/federation supports at least three different groups of amateur astronomers where:
Your organisation/federation has a formal relationship with the groups.
Each group has its own organisational structure, with a leadership through which communications are made.
Each group holds in-person activities (eg meetings, events) for their members at least once every two months.
Each group is in a different location, so that the members of different groups cannot normally all meet up together.
Your organisation/federation provides general/varied networking and support to these groups of amateur astronomers.
Please note we do not accept local amateur astronomy societies, nor individual astronomers, as members.
Associate Membership of INAAO may be offered to organisations who do not fulfill all of the INAAO requirements for full membership, but are considered to have similar goals of supporting multiple groups of amateur astronomers over wide regions, especially where no INAAO member organisation exists for that region.
Associate members have access to the Drive and may attend INAAO meetings, but not vote, and must understand that discussions and projects should stay within INAAO interests.
Offers of Associate Membership are entirely at the discretion of the group, and are confirmed by majority vote of active INAAO members (active here meaning they have made contact with the organisation within the past six months). Association Membership may be withdrawn in the same way.
Note: there are expected to be very few Associate Members, and INAAO usually contacts such organisations directly to invite them to join. However, if you represent an organisation with similar goals of which we may be unaware, then you can contact us at inaao.net@gmail.com. Please include information about how your group is organised, and how your goals align with the criteria for full INAAO membership.
