Seabiscuit (2003)
Seabiscuit (2003)
This film tells the true story of the 1930s racehorse that became a national celebrity and features some brief train traveling montage scenes.
During several of the montages seen in the film, we see Savannah & Atlanta #750 on the defunct New Georgia Railroad excursion line. If I am not mistaken, these familiar-looking shots have been lifted from Biloxi Blues. Today, the steam engine is on display at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA.
Fillmore & Western's Coach #409 was used for shots with the actors both traveling and parked at the depot. The Fillmore depot was seen multiple times representing different cities. Even though the excursion train is no longer currently running, the coach car (and Engine #14) is being stored behind the Loose Caboose at 18492 E. Telegraph Road outside Santa Paula, CA.
Midway through the film we are randomly shown a flipped stock footage shot (I've reversed it back) of Canadian Pacific #2839, a 4-8-4 Royal Hudson built in 1937. Today, this beauty is cosmetically restored and on display at the Nethercutt Museum at 15151 Bledsoe Street in Sylmar, CA.
In this brief scene at the Fillmore depot, Seabiscuit can be seen coming out of a Santa Fe Horse Express Car. This particular car was built by Pullman in 1930 and used exclusively for transporting horses to racetracks in Southern CA and may have even transported the actual Seabiscuit back in the day. Today it is on display at Railgiants Train Museum in Pomona, CA.
