International Mathematics and Statistics Student Research Symposium

A virtual conference for all students

Supported by the African Mathematical Union and the National Science Foundation (DMS2000033)

The 2023 International Mathematics and Statistics Research Symposium took place virtually on Saturday, April 15. The conference attracted more than 240 participants from over 30 countries (from Africa, Asia, Europe, Central and North America). During the symposium, more than 75 students, including high school, undergraduate and graduate students, presented their research covering a wide variety of topics, including ODEs and PDEs, fixed point theorems, cryptography, coding theory, graph theory, and financial mathematics. The symposium was organized by Feryal Alayont (GVSU), Cuixian Chen (UNCW), Kumer Pial Das (University of Louisiana at Lafayette), Hyunju Oh (University of Guam), Jan Rychtar (VCU), and Dewey Taylor (VCU). Dr. Michael Dorff (BYU), past president of the MAA, together with Dr. Nouzha El Yacoubi (Mohammed V University, Morocco), the first woman to serve as president of the African Mathematical Union, opened the conference and presented the welcoming remarks. Dr. Gretchen Matthews (VT) gave a plenary talk titled "The Power of Polynomials". In celebration of Leonard Euler's birthday, Dr. Dominic Klyve (Central Washington University) gave a plenary talk titled "The Life, Legacy, and Lost Library Books of Leonhard Euler".
