We invite you to nominate deserving individuals or submit a nomination for the prestigious awards and fellowships granted by the Indian Membrane Society (IMS). These accolades recognize and honor the outstanding research, professional contributions, and sustained leadership that advance the field of membrane science and technology in India and globally. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Indian Membrane Society, this award shall be conferred upon individuals who have made significant and sustained contributions to the field of membrane science and technology. The categories under which nominations may be submitted and the criteria to be fulfilled for each category are outlined below.
Early Career Fellows/Young Associates/Young Scientist
Eligibility:
Indian Nationals
Life Member of Indian Membrane Society (since last 3 years)
Young associates are early-career researchers, under 40 years of age (with 2 year relaxation for women candidates) till 24th April 2025 (IMS Foundation Day), who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to membrane science or technology, such as significant publications, patents, or technological developments/demonstrations.
Academic Qualifications:
Must hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in science or technology
Must be a faculty member or industry professional working in the broad areas of membrane science and technology.
Selection Basis:
Selection is based on the quality and impact of research, as evidenced by publications, citations, patents, new technological developments or technology transfer. The work carried out in India alone will be considered.
In case of collaborative works the portion of the work done must be highlighted.
Nomination:
Candidates may be nominated by heads of institutions, or through self-nomination with appropriate endorsements.
Mid-Career Fellows
Eligibility:
Indian Nationals
Life Member of Indian Membrane Society (since last 3 years)
10 years of post-Ph.D. experience below 50 years of age till 24th April 2025 (IMS Foundation Day) who have who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to membrane science or technology and mentoring students
Academic Qualifications:
Led independent projects or funding
Strong track record in terms of publications, patents, technology development/transfer, design or demonstration.
Involvement in policy making / IMS activities
Graduated minimum of 3 PhD students successfully (in case of academics)
Selection Basis:
Evaluation focuses on the applicant’s academic strengths or industry experience, leadership in research/application, and the significance and feasibility of proposed future work. The work should be original, impactful, and relevant to the Indian context.
Commitment to advancing the field, mentoring younger researchers, and contributing to the society’s activities.
Fellows
Eligibility:
Indian Nationals
Life Member of Indian Membrane Society (since last 3 years)
Typically more than 45 years of age till 24th April 2025 (IMS Foundation Day), with an impressive record of both research/operations as well as leadership
Academic Qualifications:
Outstanding publication record, with technology transferred/academic books published.
Must have graduated PhD students/ Independently led a group
Significant, sustained contributions to membrane science and allied areas, with evidence of national or international impact.
Must be affiliated with recognized institutes/university or company
Selection Criteria: Based on the overall research impact, leadership in the field, and contributions to the advancement of membrane science and technology in India.
Life time Achievement
Eligibility:
Indian Nationals
Life Member of Indian Membrane Society (since last 3 years)
Typically more than 60 years of age till 24th April 2025 (IMS Foundation Day), who have contributed directly to the field of membrane science and technology in India.
Academic or Industry professional
Academic Qualifications:
Outstanding publication record, with technology transferred/academic books published.
Must have graduated PhD students/ Independently led a group
Selection Criteria:
The individual should have made significant, sustained contributions to the advancement of membrane science in India, demonstrated through research, publications, patents, technology development, or leadership in the field
Service to the IMS itself-such as holding leadership positions
Foreign Fellow
Eligibility:
Other than Indian Nationals
Life Member of Indian Membrane Society (since last 3 years) or any other Membrane Society
Typically more than 45 years of age till 24th April 2025 (IMS Foundation Day), who have contributed directly to the field of membrane science and technology
Academic or Industry professional
Academic Qualifications:
Completed significant research/industry projects
Outstanding publication record, with technology transferred/academic books published.
Must have graduated PhD students/ Independently led a group
Must be affiliated with recognized institutes/university or company.
Selection Criteria:
The individual should have made significant, sustained contributions to the advancement of membrane science and technology, have international collaborative projects, demonstrated through research, publications, patents, technology development, or leadership in the field
The award shall be conferred on research work that has been rigorously validated at the laboratory scale and demonstrates clear potential for advancement to pilot-scale implementation. The evaluation will consider the robustness of experimental validation, reproducibility of results, technical feasibility, and scalability of the proposed approach, as well as its relevance to real-world applications. Only submissions that effectively bridge laboratory research and translational potential will be considered for this award.
The IMS MDCS AMTTR Conference invites nominations for the Best PhD Thesis Award, aimed at recognizing and honouring exceptional doctoral research in membrane science and technology. This award celebrates young researchers whose PhD work demonstrates outstanding originality, scientific rigor, and significant impact on fundamental science, technology development, and societal challenges such as decarbonization, sustainability, and industrial applications.
Eligibility:
Only PhD theses related to membranes are eligible.
The thesis must be defended/awarded between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025.

Selection Process:
The PhD Thesis Award Committee evaluates nominations.
Shortlisted candidates may present work (online/onsite).
The committee’s decision is final and binding.
Award Ceremony:
The winner will deliver a short oral presentation of their PhD research during the conference! (3 Best thesis awards will be delivered )
The award shall be conferred upon participants who will deliver the best oral presentations, as determined by the evaluation committee based on scientific merit, clarity of presentation, originality, and overall impact of the research.
