Research Interests

My research interests stretched into Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry. In particular, most of my research contributions fall in the characterization and classification problems in combinatorial commutative algebra. Moreover, I am interested in enumerative combinatorics and applied aspects of combinatorial algebra.

Brief About My Roles

I am an Associate Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan, and served as Chair of the Department from 2021 to 2025. I am the Regional Director of the Emerging Regional Centre of Excellence of the European Mathematical Society (EMS) for Pakistan and an Ambassador of the International Day of Mathematics (IDM), actively advancing the promotion of mathematics in society at large.

I earned my PhD in Mathematics (2008) from the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences, Government College University Lahore. My research spans Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, with particular emphasis on combinatorial commutative algebra, enumerative combinatorics, and applied aspects of combinatorial algebra.

Beyond research, I am deeply committed to mathematical outreach and public engagement. He is the Founder and Curator of LUMS Math Circles, an initiative aimed at broadening access to rich mathematical experiences, challenging widespread misconceptions, and fostering curiosity and rigorous thinking among school students and the wider community.

Prior to joining LUMS, I was affiliated with the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (2015–2020), where I served as Associate Professor and Director of Academics. In this role, I actively promoted research collaborations and led efforts to build and strengthen the School’s international academic linkages.

I have been representing Pakistan at the International Commission for Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) since 2026. Being appointed as Pakistan's ICMI Country Representative is both a great honor and a profound responsibility. The role serves as a vital two-way bridge. representing ICMI within Pakistan and representing Pakistan within ICMI on the world stage. In practical terms, this means:

• Bringing together Pakistan's mathematics education community — teachers, educators, researchers, mathematicians, and policymakers — to foster collaboration and growth.

• Disseminating and promoting ICMI's international and regional activities within Pakistan.

• Communicating Pakistan's needs, developments, and contributions to the global mathematics education community.

• Participating in ICMI's General Assembly and contributing to the election of its Executive Committee.

• Nominating candidates for ICMI awards and committee positions on behalf of Pakistan.

Teaching Philosophy

My mathematical teaching philosophy is based on ”Plato’s Meno”. In my lectures, I help my students to establish conceptual learning by ”raising critical questions”. At the graduate level, my exam questions are testing their abilities of critical thinking and establish stern arguments. Through these ways, I expose my students to ”Mathesis Universalis”: the method for scientific and philosophical thinking, that was envisaged by Rene Descartes and Gottfried Leibniz. I am a mathematics enthusiast, so I make special efforts to introduce a mathematical topic with historical rhetoric and applied aspects: in the most relatable and captivating ways.
