Purpose: To explore the themes of deep thinking and curiosity in children, using the Big Questions for Young Minds book as a guide. Participants will understand how to encourage critical thinking and engage children in meaningful discussions.
CLASS Crosswalk: This session supports teacher-student interactions specifically in the Instructional Support Domain: Concept development (analysis, creativity, etc.); Quality of Feedback (scaffolding, prompting thought processes, etc.); and Language Modeling (frequent conversation, open-ended prompts, etc)
Purpose: To explore using big questions during the daily routine, and exploring using books to plan questions to expand children's thinking.
CLASS Crosswalk: This session supports teacher-student interactions specifically in the Instructional Support Domain: Concept development (analysis, creativity, etc.); Quality of Feedback (scaffolding, prompting thought processes, etc.); and Language Modeling (frequent conversation, open-ended prompts, etc)
Purpose: Discuss implementation strategies and experiences, explore making the most of classroom displays to encourage higher-level thinking.
CLASS Crosswalk: This session supports teacher-student interactions specifically in the Instructional Support Domain: Concept development (analysis, creativity, etc.); Quality of Feedback (scaffolding, prompting thought processes, etc.); and Language Modeling (frequent conversation, open-ended prompts, etc)
Purpose: Discuss implementation, explore family resources, relate it to interactions in the school day, explore supporting emotional development during the first months of school, and gain additional experience through partner practice. This session ends with a gallery walk to explore everyone's Interaction Toolkit that they created throughout this book study.
