As Generation Z ages we take on the pressure of social media. While many Gen Z-ers monetize, appreciate and learn from social media most of us can agree that it results in more harmful impacts than helpful. Imposter Syndrome is heightened by our Social Networks as we scramble to prove ourselves worthy of 1,000 likes or a brand deal or affirmations from others who dress in our microtrend style. As we develop ourselves as brands rather than humans we begin to suffer the faults of a business. We start to worry if our brand will beat the competition. This is a unique problem that our generation is presented with as we don't just have to worry about our real-life peers. We compare ourselves to the world and fail to "win" against it again and again. Feelings of insecurity partnered with FOMO (fear of missing out) are manifested directly by social media. Sadly, the need to feel unique is plaguing us. And while every person is unique from birth, imposter syndrome manifested through the media convinces us that we aren't unique enough.
I know as a frequent user it often comes as a challenge for us to detach from our online dystopias. While I agree it's growing to be a redundant reminder, Social Media purges are necessary in order to have a healthy relationship with the service. Here are some ways to go about your break!
