Actually I had the same problem with an Athlon 64 PC (with a Opteron 170 cpu). Windows 7 64 bit no problem, but Windows 10 64bit did not run, the Opteron is missing the CMPXCHG16b instruction, aaaahhhhh

So I ended up with installing Windows 7 32bit, and upgrading it to Windows 10 32bit.

One of the slowest Windows 10 Pcs ever. It has 2GB RAM though, but no SSD, windows 10 is really sluggish without ssd.

Scored a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.73ghz SL7Z4 processor. Would like to make a build around this chip but I don't really have anything to go with it yet. What should I be looking for in a motherboard? Any recommendations for video cards? Looking to use this for classic games 2006ish or older, probably a dual XP / Win98. One of my kids and I like RTS games. Looking at youtube most people obsess over what they can try in 2018 or 2019 and showcasing what later stuff looks like running on an extreme P4. I just want to have an awesome period piece to use the best of that era and older. I have faster stuff to play newer games already. Looking forward to the conversation!

XOTICPC shipped the G3 Avenger in a large brown branded double box. The inner case was guarded extremely well by packing materials, with the motherboard box sitting on top, nestled in irritatingly unpoppable bubblewrap. The computer was sandwiched between two standard foam blocks that come with a PC case and inside the computer itself was another type of self inflating packing foam that kept the components snug and prevented shifting during shipping. In other words, unless you purposely try to run this thing over with a bulldozer, you can be assured your new rig will arrive pristine and unblemished. The internal packing foam was in very tightly, and took a little finessing to get out, something that may make inexperienced users nervous. A large number of custom builders opt for pre-sized air pills to pack the internal components, which are much easier to remove, but I can see the advantages of having the internals packed much more securely this way.

At the top of the range, offering over a teraflop of performance, is Intel's first consumer desktop CPU with 18 cores and 36 threads, the Core i9-7980XE, which will go on sale later this year for $1,999. Intel describes the i9 Extreme Edition as "by far the most extreme desktop processor ever introduced". But the new X-Series is larger than a single chip - there's a range of options to suit various budgets, delivering different levels of performance.

It looks like AMD may be preparing a new, and more extreme, version of one its Ryzen 4000 mobile APUs. Hardware detective @TUM_APISAK unearthed 3DMark benchmark results today for a "Ryzen 7 Extreme Edition" CPU presumed to be Renoir. be457b7860
