Plastic waste is one of the greatest harms to the environment along with both its wildlife and humans. This website was created in order to spread more awareness about the effects of plastic waste on the environment and bring people together to stop the spread of plastic waste and fight climate change so that we can have a better future. By using techniques and resources such as waste management and recycling, we can limit the amount of plastic that harms the environment, reducing the impact of mismanaged waste. One of the many ways we can do this is by reducing our carbon footprint, and by living every day in an eco-friendly way that would reduce the demand for plastic. About 300 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced every year, as more and more plastic is being used. America uses an average of 365 plastic bags per person every year, and can take up to a 1000 years for that plastic to fully decompose in a landfill. In the sense of reducing plastic waste, the most viable option is to use biodegradable plastic bags or more specifically bioplastics that significantly lessen the amount of carbon emissions produced over time compared to normal plastics or plastic bags. Through the use of recycling, composting, and uses of biodegradable plastics, we can reduce the impact of plastic waste on the world.
Joe is a high school student from the Philippines where his hometown is at risk of facing extreme weather conditions. Joe is aware that the rapidly increasing population in his area has had its tolls, and is threatening the country’s vulnerability to climate change. Some of the trends that have amplified the environmental crisis include waste and housing problems, deforestation, and rising CO2 emissions.
The solution we came up with is a website that promotes reducing carbon footprint and climate change for the future. Although this may be a small step towards helping climate change, it can be an important starting point in opening people's eyes to the real dangers of pollution.
