We the undersigned offer our support for the new Somali-American citizens and residents of our communities striving to reunite with family members prevented from immigrating to the U.S. for many years by bureaucratic delays.
These integral community members volunteer in organizations and schools, devote themselves to community improvement, participate in local events, start their own businesses, and work tirelessly for Barron County employers to advance their own lives while bringing new richness, energy, and diversity to our region and country. They help us all thrive.
Our Somali-American neighbors and their family members abroad have fully complied with all vetting requirements, have followed through with every request, have paid for testing to prove family relationships, and yet, with no reasons given, their reunification with children, parents, husbands, and wives continues to be needlessly delayed, in most cases for more than five years now.
Each day, parents wake up and go to work in Barron County and across our country not knowing if their children are all right, and go to sleep not knowing when their families will be together again.
The citizens and residents asking for your support want nothing more than to live together as whole and united families, and to work to create success for themselves, their employers, and their communities here in Barron County and throughout the United States.
WE FULLY SUPPORT THEM IN THIS EFFORT, AND ASK OUR LEADERS AND LEGISLATORS TO PRIORITIZE FAMILY REUNIFICATION IN IMMIGRATION POLICY AND LEGISLATION TO END THIS TRAUMATIC AND NEEDLESS SEPARATION OF FAMILIES.
