Dr. Lane Freeman, Director of Online Learning
Dr. Freeman is the Director of Online Learning with Programs and Services at the North Carolina Community College System Office.
This opening session will discuss how CTE faculty can effectively evaluate immersive learning technology. Immersive technology may appear to be a new shiny toy, but how does that fit into our classrooms and truly support instruction?
This session will also discuss reframing how we deliver content to CTE students post-COVID and recruit and retain students.
Dr. Joe Parlier, Sr. Director of Education
After a career in public education serving as a science and math teacher, elementary principal, high school principal, assistant superintendent, and associate state superintendent, Dr. Parlier extended his career in the private sector supporting schools in the implementation of reform initiatives and emerging technology. Dr. Parlier's research interests relate to improving student learning and school performance through a comprehensive emphasis on curriculum, assessment, instruction, professional development, community engagement, leadership, school culture, and organizational effectiveness. Dr. Parlier currently serves as the Sr. Director of Education at zSpace and holds degrees from Mercer University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Florida.
Michael Carbenia’s, Senior Executive Director of Workforce
Michael Carbenia’s pulse beats for Career and Technical Education. Having served as an instructional leader in high poverty and high-income schools alike, he seeks the “tipping point students” regardless of school setting. To his credit, he has created a system to accelerate student performance on industry certification exams over 100% in multiple Title 1 school districts. This growth generated over $4,000,000 in additional funding for his districts. His drive for quality instruction and knowledge of formative assessments aligns with his passion for CTE. Carbenia graduated from Stetson University with his specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, he studied abroad at the prestigious Oxford University, thus enhancing the breadth of his expertise which includes CTE, digital instruction, and exceptional student education. However, his proudest achievement is continuing his CTE Families legacy as the grandson of a Master Mechanic, and the son of a welder. Carbenia was the Director of CTE for St. Lucie Public Schools until joining zSpace as the Senior Executive Director of Workforce
Hall Charter, Director (Eastern US), TRANSFR
Hall originally hails from Australia and is based in New York City. He works with TRANSFR’s partners across education, business & industry and government to build community ecosystems that focus on closing the skills gaps and creating pathways to career prosperity.
Hall is passionate about his work to help people on a path to upward mobility, including underemployed, unemployed, youth, veterans, incarcerated and other demographics that are often overlooked.
He is an avid runner and loves the outdoors.
Katelyn Cutshall, Vice President of Economic Development and Government Affairs TRANSFR
Cutshall is on a mission to create a classroom to career pipeline by developing workforce ecosystems across the US that lead to an increase in economic prosperity for millions of people and communities. She envisions a future with a thriving economy that breaks the cycle of generational poverty. By understanding policy and legislation, aligning our workforce priorities to match those of industry, and collaborating with education leaders, we can position tomorrow’s workers with the skills they need today.
Prior to this role, she created the JumpStartAL Initiative which brought together the AL Governor's office, Community College System, Workforce Development Agencies, and Business and Industry to develop the next generation of labor utilizing innovative solutions.
