Tomorrow's Mathematicians Today 2024

Tomorrow's Mathematicians Today

an online Undergraduate Mathematics Conference supported by the IMA and by the University of Greenwich

Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March 2024

We are delighted to announce that Dr Anne-Marie imafidon MBE and Dr Sophie Carr CMath CSci FIMA have accepted invitations to deliver keynote talks at TMT 2024.  Information about our two keynote speakers can be found at the links above.

The University of Greenwich Maths Centre, in conjunction with The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), is very pleased to announce the eleventh Undergraduate Mathematics Conference Tomorrow's Mathematicians Today (TMT), which will be held online on Saturday 9  and Sunday 10 March 2024.   There will also be an in-person reception at the University of Greenwich on the evening of Friday 8 March for those delegates who are able to attend: details will be sent when you register.  There is no charge for UK undergraduates studying mathematics (or a closely related subject) to  attend the conference.

"Everyone was welcoming and friendly, it didn't feel stressful to present,  it was really enjoyable. Saw an amazing selection of talks on all sorts of mathematics. I was inspired by my peers doing research and amazing maths” - delegate at TMT 2022.

Instructions on how to register to attend TMT2024 are on the Registration page.  The deadline for the Call for Papers has now passed: we are delighted by the number and quality of the proposals we have received and we will publish the list of papers to be presented in due course.

(14 February 2024) The list of papers shortlisted for the IMA Prize for the Best Presentation is now published on the Prizes page.

This will be a fascinating event which will give participants the opportunity to learn about a wide range of mathematics which has excited their peers. The aim of the conference is to enable final year (and other) undergraduates to give presentations on mathematical topics of their choice. Previous conferences have seen undergraduate speakers from a wide range of universities including Aberdeen, Birkbeck University of London, Cambridge, Exeter, Glasgow, Greenwich, Imperial College London, Leeds, Liverpool, London Met, Open, Oxford, Portsmouth, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, St Andrews, University College London, Warwick and many others.

Mathematics students will benefit enormously in a number of ways by attending. Those going into research will gain experience of the process of conference submission, while those going into the workplace will gain valuable experience of professional practice and networking to enhance their CVs and career prospects. Speakers will additionally gain evidence of their professional skills. All delegates will gain insights into a wide range of mathematics of potential value in their future careers. It will be a wonderfully enjoyable day of inspiring mathematics.

The IMA magazine Mathematics Today published a report on TMT 2023 in its June 2023 issue.  The report can also be read online here.
