At UNC-Chapel Hill, I have taught the undergraduate Sociology course Sex & Gender in Society, a mid-sized course for sevens semesters. Inspired by decolonial feminist pedagogies, I strive to create a classroom environment where students are empowered to critically engage with theories and evidence, connect course material to their personal experiences, and develop a deeper understanding of both the material as well as their social worlds. While the course delves into inequality and oppression, students also learn about agency and collective action, particularly in the Global South, fostering both a sense of hope and empowerment, and challenging the notion that the Global South only learns from the Global North.
