Whether if it’s for more lift, a smoother ride or better off-road performance – Ironman 4×4 suspension has you covered!
Advantages be for a customer to fit Ironman 4x4 suspension:
Carry the vehicles load better than OEM suspension
Increase ride height
Better control on and off-road
Smoother ride
The function of the shock absorber is to, as far as possible, keep the tyres in contact with the road surface thus ensuring safe and controlled vehicle handling. It does this by controlling the action of the spring and suspension movement.

SHOCK ABSORBERS
The terrain you travel most, determines which type of shock absorber is best for you!
Forces generated by a loaded vehicle in rough terrain versus a loaded vehicle on smooth terrain differ greatly.
Creating safe and dynamic handling at higher loads requires careful consideration. The Ironman 4x4 range of shock absorbers are designed to cater for all terrains and possesses the correct amount of dampening and resistance to provide a safe and comfortable ride.
Ironman 4x4 shock absorbers are a twin tube design, offering protection for the inner working piston, and to allow for more oil.
What is the main function of a shock absorber?
A shock absorber or damper is a hydraulic device designed to absorb and damp shock impulses. It does this by converting the kinetic energy of the shock into another form of energy (typically heat) which is then dissipated.
While shock absorbers serve the purpose of limiting excessive suspension movement, their intended main purpose is to damp spring oscillations. Shock absorbers use valving of oil and gasses to absorb excess energy from the springs. Spring rates are chosen by the manufacturer based on the weight of the vehicle, loaded and unloaded.
The Nitro Gas Shock absorbers is the best value for affordable performance in all conditions. Extremely versatile, this shock is a big upgrade from OEM shocks in performance and control.
Key features of Nitro Gas shock absorbers:
Suitable for every day driving and easy 4wd terrain conditions
16 mm Rod
35mm piston
Twin Tube Construction to safeguard the inner working piston
Half filled with oil, under gas pressure
Foam cell technology replaces traditional nitrogen charging with a closed-cell foam structure that physically separates oil from nitrogen, preventing aeration and maintaining consistent damping performance.
In short, it is a foam shock that is placed in the outer tube of the shock absorber, which allows for more oil and better heat anticipation.
When the vehicle fitted out with some accessories. The Foam Cell shock absorbers will enhance your off-road durability and maintain excellent on-road characteristics.
Key features of Foam Cell shock absorbers:
Foam Cell technology
18mm Rod
40mm piston
Twin Tube Construction to safeguard the inner working piston
Larger in size with more oil capacity
FOAM CELL PRO SHOCK ABSORBERS
The Foam Cell Pro, is the premium shock built to handle any challenging conditions. They can only be fitted to specific vehicles as they can not be fitted to all OEM springs. Due to the size of the shock body it will not work on most of the bakkies in SA.
Recommended for all vehicles that travels regularly on harsh conditions and heavily loaded (Constant weight).
Key features of Foam Cell PRO shock absorbers:
Foam Cell technology
20mm Rod
45mm piston
Twin Tube Construction to safeguard the inner working piston
Larger than standard foam cell shock absorbers with more oil capacity
Not serviceable and are limited with height adjustments on struts
IRONMAN 4X4 SPRINGS
Coil and leaf springs
The minimum acceptable settlement for Coil and Leaf springs after fitment is 5mm - 8mm.
A load coil spring is recommended for the front of vehicles that have a constant weight/load. For example a vehicle fitted with a bull bar and a winch.
A load leaf spring is recommended for the rear of vehicles that have a constant weight that falls within the spring selection's kg rating. For example a vehicles fitted with a rooftop, long range fuel tank, water tank, rear protection bar etc.
Spring Rates
Before fitting any springs check that you know what the application and constant weight of the vehicle will be. Apply the spring rates and demands of the vehicle to determine what springs would be best.
Examples
A - Rated spring FRONT & REAR are for no load bearing – a good replacement spring with minimal height increase 35mm lift.
B – Rated spring FRONT additional load of 0 - 50kg is for no accessories or Bull Bar only with a 45mm lift.
B – Rated spring REAR additional load of 0 - 200kg is for no accessories or with a canopy and rear bumper fitted with a 50mm lift.
C - Rated spring FRONT additional load of 50 - 110kg, Bull Bar with winch, with a 45mm lift.
C – Rated spring REAR additional load of 200 - 400kg is for a canopy, rear bumper, draw system and extra spare wheel with occasional loads like your fridge, camping gear and water tank fitted with a 50mm lift.
D – Rated spring REAR additional load of 400 - 500kg is for a canopy, rear bumper, draw system and extra spare wheel, fridge, camping gear, water tank and long-range fuel tank fitted with a 50mm lift.
Ironman 4x4 Suspension Warranty Form
Ironman 4x4 boasts a warranty period on Ironman 4x4 suspension of 4 years / unlimited km's.
All suspension products must undergo a safety check at 500km after fitment. Fitment should be performed by an authorized Dealer & Installer, competent with suspension installations.
Special tools may be required when fitting some parts including struts. Damage to products through fitment error is not covered under warranty.
Warranty may become void when product is installed in conjunction with anything other than genuine manufacturer or Ironman 4x4 components.
Up to 10mm height reduction in springs can be considered normal settling over time.
Where required, Ironman 4x4 recommends wheel alignment after fitment of any new suspension component. Obtaining wheel alignments is the responsibility of the buyer.
It is the Dealer's responsibility to ensure, 1.) that a copy of the warranty card is given to the customer, 2.) a copy of the warranty card is kept on record for the duration, 3.) a copy of the warranty card is send via WhatsApp or email to Ironman 4x4 Africa.
The Ironman 4x4 suspension kit part numbering system is designed to be read as follows:
How to establish the correct suspension kit for a customer.
Here is some questions you must ask to correctly spec the customers vehicle suspension:
What is the primary use of the vehicle?
What accessories is currently fitted to the vehicle?
What future accessories are planned to be fitted?
What additional loads are within the vehicle, and how often is it present?
