Bio: I (Jermaine Kapombe) started playing sports early in life when I was in the third grade, I played soccer and basketball with my friends in the neighborhood. I started participating in organized sports at the age of eleven. Playing organized sports helped me to understand the impact sports has in teaching values like respect, discipline, team work, work ethic, sportsmanship, confidence and leadership through sports.
I made the decision to focus on basketball when I reached high school. I played varsity basketball in the tenth grade and I was team captain by my senior year. Basketball is my favorite sport. I played college ball at Prince George’s Community College and at Frostburg State University in Cumberland, Maryland between 2005 - 2007, where I was named Pre-season All American in college.
I decided to give back to our children by helping them through sports, because children learn life lessons differently when participating in sports activities with their peers. I’ve been able to use sports to teach work ethic, discipline, respect, and leadership to children to become productive individuals in different areas of their lives.
I been making a difference in people since 2008 working with individual with intellectual disability. I received my bachelor’s degree in social work from Frostburg State University, I decided to study social work to improve my ability to help people. I’ve learned different methods that’s effective to help encourage individuals to do their best. “You can’t change people, but you can help people to change themselves.” I been making a difference in adults and children's lives for eleven years and what I know now is change is a process not a result that just happens.
Working at the Foundation School in Largo, Maryland for 4 years placed me in an environment where I had to make a difference in the lives of students with emotional disability with behaviors in school due to their challenging backgrounds. I helped a lot of students individually as well as in groups to do better at the Foundation School.
After working at the Foundation School for 4 years, I co-founded Mentoring Through Physical Education Inc. at the Foundation School in 2017 as the Physical Education Teacher Assistant to empower students with emotional challenges to make better life decisions. I provided students tools to make better decisions in the classroom as well as in their personal lives as a mentor. As co-founder of Mentoring Through Physical Education Inc. from 2017 to January 2019, I also created Kids Sports Club for boys and girls to have the opportunity to have fun while developing the necessary skills needed to be successful in team sports.
Inspiring Lives Through Sports will help children to develop their individual sports skills in different sports in soccer, basketball, and football just to name a few of the sports we plan to introduce to children to have fun with their peers in a positive environment lead and supervised by a positive coach/mentor.
Making a difference in people's lives is what I do best.
