CLOTHING
Traditional clothing in Ilocos Norte reflects simplicity, elegance, and the province’s rich weaving tradition. Ilocanos are known for producing Abel Iloko, a handwoven fabric made from cotton or silk, often used to make traditional garments.
Men traditionally wear barong, a lightweight embroidered shirt, usually paired with trousers. For everyday wear, Ilocano men also wear simple woven shirts and pants that are comfortable for farming or working in the hot climate.
Women traditionally wear blouses and long skirts made from abel fabric, which are often colorful and patterned. These outfits are elegant yet practical for daily life. During festivals and special occasions, women may wear more elaborate dresses with intricate embroidery.
