Illinois (IL) TIMBER BUYER Practice Course

The TIMBER BUYER course is an online license renewal course from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The course provides training on timber identification, tree growth and utilization, forest management practices and wildland fire management.

The TIMBER BUYER course is required for all timber buyers in the state of Illinois. This license renewal activity is authorized by IDNR's Division of Forest Resource Management (DFRM). To obtain your license you must complete a 40-hour classroom-based training program or pass a written exam prior to being issued a license. If you hold a current timber buyer license and have not been in the field for at least two years you will be required to take the class.

In order to obtain your Illinois Timber Buyer License:

You must be 18 years or older

Complete a 40 hour classroom based training program

Pass an exam with 80% or better
