Books

AbeBooks - good used book site (Just enter search words and see what comes up. A few pointers: 1) books are presented lowest price to highest price, so change the Sort By option to most recently listed; 2) if you click on a title you are interested in, abebooks shows you all the copies it has available, so you may find one in better condition or for a more reasonable price; 3) search on specific lace types as ‘bobbin lace’ does not always show every possible book. )
Alibris - good used book site (They don’t have an option to search for newly listed books, but they do show you all available copies when you click on a book title. )
Bookfinder - not a book seller, but a good place to find book sellers - shows prices and compares them on various sites
University of Arizona Digital Archive - a great place for free out-of-copyright books
Archive.org - another good place for free out-of-copyright books
Project Gutenberg - a great site for all kinds of free books
If you have an eBay account, you can set up searches for types of books you are interested in and eBay will send you email if/when such a book is put up there for sale. Also, if you have a login on Amazon, you can create a wish list of books you’re interested in and check it periodically for any available at an acceptable price. One simple technique to find a book you are interested in is to enter its name in your favorite search engine’s search box and see what comes up.
And don’t forget if you are an IOLI member, you can borrow books from the library for 3 weeks to check them out. Instructions for borrowing and lists of books are available on the site under the ‘Library’ link on the IOLI home page.
