• The use of time across Italy: A sequence analysis study

Although man considers time a precious resource, he is not always fully aware of how he uses it.

Starting from an excursus of time use's studies and of the sequence analysis method, this thesis combines them in order to highlight different time sequences for different individual characteristics and, as an added value compared to previous studies, to show the territorial differences within the Italian population. So, considering gender, age, employment status, and especially the differences between North, Centre and South of Italy.

This is carried out using Istat data about TUS 2013-14 (latest available). Combining individual and daily datasets, we obtain the activities every 10 minutes for 24 hours for each family's investigated day.

The application of sequence analysis techniques to these data, allows to carry out a real study of the sequences and progression of each citizen activities in order to highlight differences among the various subgroups, and apply correct policy.
