A mobile application is a computer program or software application designed to run on a mobile device such as a phone, tablet, or watch. Mobile apps are available for a wide variety of uses that include mobile games, booking cabs, shopping, ordering food from home, buying tickets, navigation and finding directions, mobile banking, stock trading, e-mails, messaging, social networking, entertainment (watching movies, TV shows, documentaries, etc.), money management, monitoring & controlling smart devices, robots & drones; buying & reading books, productivity & business applications, etc. In fact, there is no limit to the types of products & services that can be offered through mobile apps
Mobile apps can be searched for and downloaded from the following two primary sources:
Mobile apps that run on Google's Android operating system can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, while mobile apps that run on the Apple's iOS operating system can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. There are millions of mobile apps available on both these mobile platforms, and there are thousands of app developers who develop apps for each of these platforms. In addition, mobile apps can also be downloaded from many other sources such as business-specific web-sites.
What does it take to build a mobile app?
To build a mobile app of your own, you have to decide whether you wish to build the mobile app for Apple's iOS platform, or for Google Android platform. The tools that are used to develop mobile apps are entirely different for these two platforms.
Android Studio is a software tool that is used for developing mobile apps on the Android platform, while Xcode is the software tool primarily used for developing mobile apps on the Apple iOS platform.
How can I start building my own Mobile App?
If you are very new to developing mobile apps, you can start building your mobile apps, not with Android Studio or Xcode, but with MIT APP INVENTOR , a mobile-app and web-app development platform from MIT . MIT APP INVENTOR App Coder is an intuitive, visual programming environment that allows everyone, even children, to build fully functional mobile apps for smartphones and tablets.
MIT has both a desktop version that can be downloaded and installed on your computer, as well as a browser-based version that can be accessed directly from your web-browser. The browser-based version is more convenient to use as it does not require you to install the software on your computer. However, at present, the browser-based version has fewer capabilities compared to the desktop version.
