1. Introduction
Welcome to Ikigai: Book Summary & Reader (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Android application. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner, in full compliance with Google Play Developer Program Policies and applicable data protection laws.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
The App does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information such as your name, email address, or password. All your reading preferences, progress, bookmarks, and settings are stored locally on your device only.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, certain information may be collected automatically by us or our third-party service providers:
- Device identifiers (Advertising ID): Used for serving personalized advertisements by Google AdMob.
- Push notification tokens: Used by OneSignal for delivering push notifications to your device.
- App interaction events: Used by Google AdMob and our backend for displaying ads and tracking ad performance.
- Network and IP data: Used by our API server for app connectivity and country-based content delivery.
- Device locale and country: Used internally by the App to determine premium or ad-free eligibility based on your region.
2.3 Local File Access
If you choose to import your own PDF books into the App, the App will request access to your device storage. The selected PDF file is copied into the App's private internal storage, which is not accessible to other apps. We do not upload, share, or transmit your imported PDF files to any server.
2.4 Reading Progress and Preferences
Your reading progress, bookmarks, streak data, page numbers, and dark mode preferences are stored locally using Android's SharedPreferences and Room Database. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any server.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected for the following purposes:
- Serving Advertisements: To display relevant ads through Google AdMob, including Interstitial Ads and App Open Ads.
- Push Notifications: To send you optional app-related notifications via OneSignal. You may disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
- Content Delivery: To fetch books, authors, categories, and banners from our API server.
- Ad Analytics: To log ad performance events such as impressions and clicks to our internal backend to help improve the ad experience.
- Premium Eligibility: To check if your country is in a region where ads are disabled based on server settings.
- App Functionality: To provide reading progress tracking, daily streaks, motivational quotes, and personalized in-app content.
4. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party services. Each service operates under its own privacy policy and we encourage you to review them.
4.1 Google AdMob
We use Google AdMob to serve advertisements including Interstitial Ads and App Open Ads. AdMob may collect your Advertising ID, device information, and usage data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads.
