Artist's Entry Piece:Title: HabiMedia: digital art (animated)Sizes: 1920 x 1080 pixels
Description:In the animated digital work Habi (1920 x 1080 pixels), the intricate geometric motifs derived from traditional indigenous Philippine textiles (as seen in the referenced examples: 'bangkoro-kambayashu', 'inabal', 'ikat', 'panubok', 'sudlikama', 'patadyong', 'binunghay', 'hinabol' and 't'nalak') are re-imagined. The animation subtly and methodically deconstructs and re-constructs these forms, stripping them down to their core mathematical and aesthetic foundations. It is a work of decolonial minimalism within the 'Techspressionism' framework. Rather than a dense, over-layered presentation, Habi presents each complex pattern in isolation against a minimal, meditative field, allowing the viewer to appreciate the visual language itself—the precise geometry, color balance, and rhythmic repetitions—and the inherent 'technology' of weaving and pre-colonial design. The animation acts as a slow pulse, a quiet assertion of the enduring nature of these forms as they occupy and redefine a contemporary digital space, free from colonial interpretations of 'excess' or 'primitive complexity.' It is a visual language of resistance through refined clarity.
